Howe CRA Sportsman Series Ready For Inaugural Event At Plymouth Speedway

Salem, IN (May 21, 2008) – The Howe CRA Sportsman Series is ready for it’s inaugural event at Plymouth Speedway this Saturday, May 24th. The series, now in its third season, has competed mostly in Central and Northeast Indiana, will now venture a little further Northwest to compete on the 3/8-mile oval that is in its third season with owners Tom Smith and Bob Blount. Smith and Blount have made tremendous improvements to the facility including new pavement last season that has helped produce some of the best racing the track has ever seen.

Saturday’s event will feature the best drivers from the Howe CRA Sportsman Series battling the best drivers from the Plymouth Speedway Sportsman division. Saturday’s 75-lap event will serve as a tune-up for the 100 lap $2,500 to win Howe CRA Sportsman event at Plymouth on Saturday, August 2nd.

It remains to be seen if anyone can stop the Dager Express that has captured the first four events with the Howe CRA Sportsman Series so far this season. Rookie Tony Dager had planned on just racing with the series part-time, but his early success now has him thinking of a possible series Championship. Dager found victory lane in both series events this past weekend at Baer Field Speedway, but not with out some help.

In Saturday nights race Dager had climbed to second behind Chad Richardson, when on a restart Richardson’s brakes failed going into turn one causing him to spin, giving the lead to Dager. On Sunday, Dager was running third when second place Steve Minich Jr. made contact with leader Eric Barkus, causing Barkus to spin, both cars were placed at the tail of the field giving the lead to Dager with out having to pass a car.

"We haven’t been dominate by any means," remarked Dager after Sunday’s race. "We have been in the right place at the right time. We’ve had a good car at each race, but I’ve only been the fast qualifier once in four events. My crew does a great job getting the car ready each week, we just go out and try to do our best and hope for some good luck, like we’ve had so far!"

With his victories Dager is the series points leader by 35 points over second place Rick Rinehart. Fellow rookie Justin Alsip is in third place 35 points behind Rinehart. 2007 series Champion Billy Hutson is in fourth, just four points behind Alsip. Rookie Nick Lay is in fifth place, two points behind Hutson.
