Special from Canusa Racing
De St. Jean's 2008 Plans Have Changed
After a few months of speculation and
rumors, it is official, Greg De St Jean, driver of the #9 Canusa
Racing Saturn will be unable to attempt a defense of the 2007 Vores
Welding & Steel CRA FWD Compact Championship.
In early December Greg was injured at
work. He suffered multiple herniated
discs
in the lumbar area of his back. He has gone through months of various
treatments. After three separate epidural injections into the spine
and six weeks of physical therapy, most of the injuries have
recovered. However, he is having several problems including extreme
pain, numbness, loss of strength, & limited use of his right leg and
foot. He has been referred to Dr Dwight Tyndall, an orthopedic spinal
surgeon. Dr Tyndall strongly recommended he undergo a microdiscetomy
of the L5-S1. The surgery has tentatively been scheduled on April 1st.
The recovery time can be 4-8 weeks. After that he will be reevaluated.
"All winter I was looking forward to the
start of the season, now I have to wait to see if I will be allowed to
race again," remarked De St. Jean. "The plan was to build a second car
to race as many local events as possible, and run the Saturn in the
CRA."
At this time Canusa Racing is preparing
a second car to be driven by Greg's wife, Karen.
"As far as the CRA is concerned, we will
play it by ear. I won't let her attempt a track like Winchester until
I feel she can handle it."
For now Karen will get as many laps as
possible at as many different tracks as we can get to. Once she is up
to speed and running clean lines, then we can make the trip down. For
now the focus is getting her used to racing at full speed. Right now,
Greg is focused on a full recovery and a hopeful return to the car. If
things work out great, a target has been set around mid May.
"Hopefully I can make it back in time
for the Baer Field events. We will just have to wait and see. I am
looking forward to seeing everyone again at all the tracks."
