CRA Super Series Ready To Battle Chicagoland’s Best In Musgrave Memorial

Salem, IN (June 18, 2008) – The CRA Super Series teams are ready to travel to Illiana Motor Speedway to battle the best late model drivers in the Chicagoland area in the 7th Annual Elmer Musgrave Memorial Presented By Texas Corral Restaurants this Saturday, June 21st. The event is held in memory and honor of the life of the late Elmer Musgrave, who passed away in 2000. Musgrave was a long time Chicagoland stock car competitor, racing at tracks through out the Mid-west and the Chicago area. His son, Ted Musgrave, the 2005 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Champion, will be on hand Saturday for a special autograph session.

Dave Weltmeyer, multi-time track champion at Illiana and winner of last season’s Musgrave Memorial event, heads a list of strong competitors representing the Chicagoland area. Three-time Musgrave winner Eddie Hoffman is also entered, along with four time Illiana Champion Mike White. Also representing the Chicagoland area will be 2007 Illiana track Champion Jeff Cannon and Jack Kalwasinski, a former Limited Late Model Champion who got his first late model victory at Illiana just a couple of weeks ago.

The CRA Super Series will also have some Chicagoland representatives led by former Illiana Champion Boris Jurkovic of Joliet who won the first Musgrave Memorial event in 2002 and is currently sixth in series points. Series regular Sean Matthuis of Mokena is also a former Illiana Champion in 2006 in the Mid-America Division, he is currently 13th in series points to date. Nick Baran of Plainfield has competed with the series the past two seasons. New Lenox native Al Longtin is a rookie competitor with the series, he has competed in two series events to date.

Two-time series Champion Scott Hantz is the current points leader by 43 points over series veteran Rick Turner. Hantz has been off to a great start in 2008, opening the season with two straight victories and has followed that up with two straight third place finishes. Hantz got a victory in the series first ever event at Illiana back in 2001.

Rick Turner is coming off a victory in last Sunday’s series event at Anderson Speedway and is entered for Saturday’s event, he currently hold a 20 point lead over third place competitor Jason Dietsch who is also entered. Other series regulars who have entered for Saturday’s event include Terry Fisher Jr., K & N Filters Rookie Points Leader Zach Taylor, Jeff Lane, Jason Shively, series track record holder J.R. Roahrig, Kenny Tweedy, John VanDoorn, Tommy Cook and rookie competitors Aaron Pierce, Robert Maynor and Adam Purdy. Part-time series competitors Jeep Pflum, Josh Bauer and A.J. Ganino have also entered.

Pit Gates open Saturday at 1pm Central Time. Practice for the CRA Super Series will begin at 3:30pm with qualifying at 5:30pm. The race program will begin at 7pm and will include the 7th Annual Elmer Musgrave Memorial Presented By Texas Corral Restaurants for the CRA Super Series as well as racing action from the Illiana Motor Speedway Limited Late Models and the Wild & Crazy 4 cylinder pure stocks.
