Barnes Jr. To
Crew Chief For Jason Shively At Salem Speedway
Salem, IN (June 1, 2008) –
2004 CRA Super Series Champion Chuck Barnes Jr. will be at the Hoosier
Hill 100 CRA Super Series event at Salem Speedway this coming
Saturday, but not to race, Barnes Jr. will be the Crew Chief for CRA
Super Series driver Jason Shively competing in his first ever race on
the
High
Banks of Salem Speedway. The CRA Super Series last competed at Salem
Speedway in October of 2004, Barnes Jr. clinched his championship by
finishing sixth in that event.
"I’m really looking forward to
working with Jason at Salem Speedway," remarked Barnes Jr. "Of course
Salem is one of my favorite tracks, it was my family’s home track for
many years, I’ve raced Street Stocks, Super Stocks, Late Models and an
ARCA car their. I feel like I can really help Jason get comfortable
and be competitive in this Saturday’s race."
Barnes Jr. just recently moved back
to his hometown, Louisville, Kentucky, after working for Petty
Enterprises NASCAR Sprint Cup Team for 10 months in North Carolina.
"I really enjoyed working for the
Petty’s, I learned a lot while I was there, but after getting married
in March, I just really felt like I wanted to be at home in Louisville
with my family and that’s were I wanted to raise my son, so he could
be close to his grand parents."
Being a crew chief is not a new job
for Barnes Jr., he was been his own crew chief for most of his racing
career, and has worked with his dad Chuck Barnes Sr., most recently at
the Frank Kimmel Street Stock Nationals at Kentucky Speedway on May 24th
were Barnes Jr. helped his father win one of the biggest street stock
events in the nation for the second consecutive season.
"I’ve always enjoyed racing cars, but
I also enjoy working on them, and seeing a car that I worked on or a
driver I’ve helped do well. I’ve been working on racecars since I was
a kid and I’ve helped several competitors at Salem Speedway over the
years. I got to know Jason and his dad at some CRA shows in the past,
Jason called and ask he to work with him at this event. I’ve always
worked well with the Port City Chassis, which Jason uses, hopefully
with some luck I can help Jason get a good finish Saturday."
Barnes Jr. has four career wins with
the CRA Super Series including the prestigious 2004 All American 400
at the Music City Motorplex in Nashville, Tennessee. He is tied for
seventh all time for setting event fast times, he holds the track
record at Salem Speedway, which he set in qualifying for the 2004
event, with a time of 16.331, which translates to 122.344 miles per
hour around the .555 oval. Barnes Jr. was the 2006 Salem Speedway Late
Model Champion, and won in his ARCA RE/MAX Series debut in August of
2006.
Jason Shively is currently tied for
tenth place in CRA Super Series points after two events in 2008.
Shively finished 10th in the season opener at Winchester
Speedway on April 27th. He finished 13th in the
series second event of the season at Baer Field Speedway on May 18th.
2007 was Shively’s best season with the series when he finished
seventh in series points and was the TDR Screen Graphics Sportsman Of
The Year. Shively has been racing with the CRA Super Series since a
couple of starts during the 2004 season and has been racing full-time
