Dager Leads Points At
Seasons Halfway Point
Salem, IN (July 29, 2008) –
The $2,500 to win Dually Depot 100 will be this Saturday, August 2 for
the Howe CRA Sportsman Series at Plymouth Speedway located in
Plymouth, Indiana. The $2,500 first place payoff is the largest
winning payoff the series will have all season, the total purse will
also be one of the top purses paid out to the series all year. The
event will feature the best drivers of the Howe CRA Sportsman Series
competing against the best Plymouth Speedway Sportsman drivers and
against some of the
best
Sportsman drivers for all over Northern Indiana and Southern Michigan.
The series competed at Plymouth
Speedway earlier this season on Saturday, May 24th when a
series record 44 cars signed in for that event. South Bend, Indiana
veteran racer Lou Stremme started on the pole and led all 75 laps of
the Transit Mix Concrete 75 that Saturday night ending Tony Dager’s
streak of four straight wins in the series first four events of the
2008 season. The father of NASCAR driver David Stremme, never led by
more than a few car lengths and had to negotiate several accidents and
restarts to get the win.
Goshen, Indiana driver Charlie Hanna
finished in second in a tough battle with Justin Alsip who finished
third by less than a fender. Rick Rinehart finished in fourth with
1997 series Champion Billy Hutson in fifth. Mike Shewchuk finished in
sixth, he was the highest finishing Plymouth Speedway Sportsman
Division regular. Tony Dager was the events Holley Performance Fast
Qualifier and drew an eight for the inverted start placing Stremme on
the pole. Dager was making a charge to the front when contact from
Rinehart flattened a tire putting Dager on the tail of the field.
Dager fought back to finish in ninth.
Dager comes into the Dually Depot 100
as the series point’s leader as the series reaches the halfway point
of its 2008 season. Dager, a series rookie, has led the series points
the entire season after winning the first four events of the season.
Dager returned to victory lane again on July 5th at Baer
Field Speedway and currently holds a 41 point lead over Rick Rinehart
who is in second place, but is still seeking his first win of the 2008
season.
Rookie competitor Justin Alsip
currently sits in third place in points, he is 64 points behind
Rinehart. Alsip has two third place finishes so far this season.
Charlie Hanna is in fourth place in series points, he is 27 points
behind Alsip. Eric Barcus is in fifth place in series points, 23
points behind Hanna. Chad Richardson won the Angola event on July 3
while Al Cook Jr. won the series last event at Baer Field Speedway on
July 19th.
Kevin Gunkel is the point’s leader in
the Plymouth Speedway Sportsman Division by one point over second
place Mike Shewchuk. Matt Elliot is in third place 37 points behind
Shewchuk. Nick Pressler is in fourth place, only five points behind
Elliot. Billy Rumbaugh is in fifth place, 15 points behind Pressler.
