Zach Taylor Leads Tight K & N Filters Rookie Of The Year Battle

Salem, IN (July 2, 2008) – Zach Taylor currently leads the K & N Filters Rookie Of The Year points after five CRA Super Series events so far this season, but fellow rookie Aaron Pierce is right on his tail in what looks to be a great battle for the 2008 K & N Filters Rookie Of The Year heading into Thursday’s Hargus Mullins Memorial 125 Presented By EMF Corp. and Centennial Wireless at Angola Motor Speedway.

Taylor started the season off by claiming the K & N Filters Rookie Of The Race in the first three series events, but bad luck has suddenly reared its ugly head as Taylor has had his last two races end early with mechanical problems opening the door for Pierce to claim the rookie of the race award the last two series events. In regular series points Taylor and Pierce are currently tied for seventh place with 388 points apiece. In the K & N Filters Rookie Of The Year points, were each participant gets to drop their worst two finishes of the season, Taylor has 271 points to lead with Pierce in second with 258 points.

Taylor’s best finish of the season was a second place finish at the Salem Speedway event on June 7th. Taylor led the first 49 laps of that event before being passed by series veteran Jeff Lane who went on to get the victory. Taylor was able to hold off two time series Champion Scott Hantz to get his best finish ever with the series. Pierce’s best finishes to date are both sixth place finishes in the season opener at Winchester Speedway and at the June 15th Anderson Speedway event.

Robert Maynor is currently third in K & N Filters Rookie Of The Year points with 216 points with a best finish of 11th at the Anderson Speedway event. Adam Purdy is currently in fourth with 202 points and a best finish of 14th also at the Anderson Speedway event. Tommy Cook is currently in fifth place with 188 points, Cook missed the last two series events after having some minor surgery, but will be back behind the wheel at Thursday’s event at Angola. Al Longtin is in sixth place with 184 points and Donald Karr Jr. in seventh with 157 points, both those drivers are only competing in selected series events.

The K & N Filters Rookie Of The Race Award will go to the highest finishing registered rookie at each CRA Super Series points event during the 2008 season and will consist of a $100 cash bonus and a $25 Product Certificate. The highest finishing registered rookie in the K & N Filters Rookie Of The Year Standings will receive the K & N Filters Rookie Of The Year Award at the 2008 Champion Racing Association Awards Banquet which will include a $1000 cash bonus, a jacket and a $100 Product Certificate from K & N Filters.
