Steven Brooks earns the Hard-Charger Award at I-70 with his
30th to Ninth Place run and will now look ahead to CRA Super Series
racing in Plymouth, Indiana.
New Lenox, Illinois (Wednesday, July 9, 2008): 2007 ASA
Late Model Series Most Improved Driver Award Winner, Steven Brooks
showed a glimpse of why he earned that honor from a season ago!
The New Lenox, Illinois driver made the long trip to I-70 Speedway
in Odessa, Missouri for the ASALMS Northern Divisions fourth race of
the 2008 racing season, the Light Up The Night 150 on July 5th.
After qualifying a disappointing 27th out of 32 cars on hand, Brooks
was forced to run the GM Performance Parts Shootout for the second
race in a row.
Despite finishing sixth in the race,
he
was able to start the race when ASALMS Co-Founders / Presidents, Ron
and Sandy Varney along-with I-70 Speedway Promoter, Brad McDonald
agreed to start all 32 cars in the 150-lap Feature!
The 20-year-old Brooks took full advantage of his chance to race in
the extended distance Feature and earned the Performance Concepts
Hard-Charger Award with an impressive 30th to Ninth Place run on the
wicked fast high-banks in the Show-Me State!
Now Brooks will take a break from ASALMS action and make his first
start with the CRA Super Series on Sunday, July 13, 2008 in the
Mid-Summer Championships 200 at Plymouth Speedway in Plymouth,
Indiana.
"I'm really looking forward to racing at Plymouth this weekend with
the CRA Super Series. Last year we ran a Super Pro Series race at
Plymouth and had second quick time, but got into a little bit of
trouble in the race. We were still able to finish in the Top 10
though." Brooks remarked.
"It'll be a lot of fun to race against some of the guys I grew up
watching race Super Late Models in the area such as Brian Ross,
Scott Hantz, and especially (NASCAR Nationwide Series Star) David
Stremme." He added.
As for I-70, Brooks was ecstatic about his run despite his trials
and tribulations from earlier in the day. "Well going into I-70, our
goal was able to run finish in the Top 10 and we where able to do
that. Our car was great on long runs but just did not like sticker
tires. So we did not qualify well but as the race went on our car
just kept getting better and better." He explained.
"I-70 is really a tough track and from last year it got a lot
rougher and with water weeping in the second groove the track was
really just a one groove track that made it hard to pass." The
20-year-old added. "We where really pleased with our run and to get
the hard charger award was pretty awesome."
"I have to thank my guys because a half of our crew was not able to
make it down there because that was such a long trip. But the ones
that were there really stepped up and really came through for me."
Brooks ended.
For the remainder of the 2008 season, Brooks will steer his own
