Sportsman Series Back on the ½ Mile At Baer Field Speedway Saturday
Salem, IN (July 16, 2008) –
The Howe CRA Sportsman Series are ready to return to action at Baer
Field Speedway this Saturday night for the Seyferts 50 on the ½ mile.
The series had a big July 4th Weekend of racing action
beginning on Thursday July 3rd in the Ashley Transport 75
at Angola Motor Speedway were Chad Richardson came away with his first
victory
of the 2008 season. The series then ventured to Baer Field Speedway on
Saturday July 5th for the U.S. Military 50 on the 3/8 mile
track were Tony Dager came from his 12th place starting
position to make an exciting last lap pass of Nathan Herron to get the
win. Dager used a borrowed car from Steve Minich Jr. for that event
after his car suffered heavy damage in a race ending wreck on Thursday
night at Angola when his brakes failed. Dager also set a new Howe CRA
Sportsman Series new track record for the 3/8 mile in qualifying.
Dager remains on
top of the series points after opening
the season with four straight victories, and getting his fifth victory
of the season on July 5th, he has won all three of the
series events held at Baer Field Speedway so far this season. The
leading rookie in points has also gained points as the Holley
Performance Products Fast Qualifier at three events so far this
season. Dager has a 39 point lead over second place Rick Rinehart, who
is still trying to get his first series victory of the 2008 season.
Rinehart’s best to date has been two second place finishes, both times
he was behind Dager.
Rookie Justin Alsip is currently in
third, 41 points behind Rinehart. Alsip’s best
finishes
so far in 2008 have been two third place finishes, one at the Plymouth
Speedway event, the other was at the last series event on July 5th.
Nick Lay is currently in fourth, 46 points behind Alsip. Lay has
finished third in three series events this season and was the Holley
Performance Products Fast Qualifier at three events.
Eric Barcus is in fifth place in
series points to date, he is only two points behind Lay. Barcus has
two fourth place finishes as his best so far in 2008. Car owner Tony
Barcus had three cars entered in the both the series July 4th
Weekend events. Charlie Hanna is sixth in points, only four behind
Barcus.
Pits will open this Saturday at Baer
Field Speedway at 2pm, practice will begin at 3:30pm, qualifying at
5:30pm. The race program will begin at 7:30pm and will include 10 lap
heat races and the Seyferts 50 for the Howe CRA Sportsman Series. More
