Champion Racing Association Officials Release Tentative CRA Super Series 2008 Season Schedule

Salem, IN (January 13, 2008) – Champion Racing Association Officials released their tentative CRA Super Series schedule for the upcoming 2008 season during their Champion Racing Association Awards Banquet held this past Saturday in Anderson, Indiana. The 2008 season will be the twelfth season for the Indiana based touring asphalt template late model series sanctioned by Champion Racing Association. The current tentative schedule consists of seventeen total events, fifteen CRA Super Series point’s events, as well as the non-points Speedfest 2008 Presented By Goodyear event at USA International Speedway and the All American 400 non-points events sanctioned by the CRA Super Series.

The CRA Super Series will open its 2008 season in just a few weeks with the 4th addition of SpeedFest Presented By Goodyear at USA International Speedway in Lakeland, Florida which is a co-promoted event involving USA International Speedway, the CRA Super Series and FASCAR’s Sunbelt Series. The event will include Super Late Models with North/South 100 lap qualifying races on Friday, January 25th and the SpeedFest 200 Presented By Goodyear on Saturday, January 26th. Also the event will include for the first time ever the Crate Late Model Challenge for ASA Late Model Series type cars which will have North/South 25 lap qualifying races on Friday, January 25th and a 100 lap event on Saturday, January 26th.

The CRA Super Series will open its 2008 points season at the Music City Motorplex in Nashville, Tennessee on March 28th & 29th in a 150-lap special points event. Since the event will bring in several outside teams, the event will have some special point provisions. The lowest amount of points any team will receive for participating in the event will be 80. Teams will receive additional points for qualifying in the top five or finishing in the top ten in the event. The winner will receive one of the coveted Copley Guitar Trophy’s, one of the most famous trophies in racing.

On April 12th the CRA Super Series will race at Anderson Speedway in Anderson, Indiana, that historic quarter mile Speedplant was the birthplace of the series in 1997. Anderson Speedway has had a total of 43 CRA Super Series events to date. Former two time series champion Brian Ross is the all-time series victory leader at Anderson Speedway with nine victories.

From there the series will travel to the legendary high banks of Winchester Speedway in Winchester, Indiana on Sunday, April 20th, were the series will be part of that tracks first event of it’s 2008 season with the USAC National Sprint Car Series. The series has had 22 events to date at Winchester Speedway, Ross and Bull Baker are tied for the most victories with three a piece.

The series will then travel to Baer Field Speedway in Ft. Wayne, Indiana on Sunday, May 18th were race fans can get their fill as Champion Racing Association presents the Third Annual CRA Super Sunday which will include racing action from the four Champion Racing Association divisions including the CRA Super Series, Howe CRA Sportsman, CRA Street Stocks and Vore’s Welding & Steel CRA FWD Compacts.

Next up the series will return to the High Banks of Salem Speedway for the Hoosier Hills Classic on Saturday, June 7th, the series returns their after a four year absence. A total of 19 CRA Super Series events have been contested at Salem, since Kenny Tweedy won a 100-lap race in May of 1997, the second event in the series inaugural season. Bull Baker won the series last event at Salem Speedway, which was a 125-lap event, held on October 24th, 2004. Ross and Junior Hanley have the most victories at Salem with four a piece.

The series will then visit Schererville, Indiana for the Elmer Musgrave Memorial at Illiana Motor Speedway on Saturday, June 21st. Illiana Motor Speedway is currently in the process of putting in new grand stand bleachers as owner Mike Mikuly made a recommitment last season that the track would being racing for several years to come. The series has had five events at Illiana, Eddie Hoffman has the most with two victories.

The CRA Super Series and the Howe CRA Sportsman Series will compete together on Thursday night, July 3rd to kick off the big July 4th Holiday Weekend. It will be the 13th event for the CRA Super Series at Angola Motor Speedway, Angola native Scott Hantz is the all time series win leader at Angola with three victories driving for Dick Poe Motorsports at what many consider his home track. The July 3rd event will be the first ever Howe CRA Sportsman event at Angola Motor Speedway.

On July 13th the series will return to Plymouth Speedway for a 200-lap event. The track has seen a huge resurgence after being re-opened by racers Bobby Blount and Tom Smith. The track has had several renovations including new pavement last season and concrete pit slabs. Blount is a three-time winner with the CRA Super Series, Smith was the Late Model Champion at Grundy County Speedway last season and has also been a part-time competitor with the series in years past.

The series will then return to Anderson Speedway for a 300-lap event as part of the Anderson 400 on Saturday, August 9th. The CRA Super Series will be joined that night by the CRA Street Stocks, which will round out the 400 with a 100-lap event. Both events will be run straight through with no breaks.

The series will then go back to Salem Speedway for a second event on Saturday, August 16th, then it will be back to Winchester Speedway On Monday, September 1st for the annual Labor Day Weekend World Stock Car Festival, an event that was a huge success in 2007. That weekend event will also feature racing action from the CRA Street Stocks, Howe CRA Sportsman and Vore’s Welding & Steel CRA FWD Compacts.

Up next will be the previously announced special event with the Third Annual Boyne Machine Weekend on September 12th & 13th at the famed Berlin Raceway located in Marne, Michigan. Last seasons CRA Super Series event at Berlin was originally scheduled for May 26 but that event was rained out. Boyne Machine's Mike Blackmer came forward to suggest adding the CRA event to his regular September weekend. Boyne Machine sweetened the deal for the CRA Super Series 125 lap event by raising the purse from the regular pay of $3,000 to win, all the way up to $7,500 to win. The 2008 non-pit stop 125 laps event will go even further paying $10,000 to win, $5000 for second, $3000 for third down to $525 to start!

On Sunday, October 12th the CRA Super Series will return to Winchester Speedway for the 37th Annual Winchester 400. The event was brought back in 2006 and has continued to attract a top-notch group of racers from all over to compete against the CRA Super Series best in this prestigious event at the historic Winchester Speedway, including NASCAR stars Kyle Busch and David Stremme in last season’s event. The event will be the season point’s championship event for the series, that weekend will also feature the season championship events for other three CRA series as well.

The season ending event will be the famed All American 400 Weekend on October 31st, November 1st & 2nd at the Music City MotorPlex at the Fairgrounds in Nashville, Tennessee. The event will be increased to 400 laps for the 2008 season after being 300 laps in 2007. This event has continued to attract the best late model racers from all over the nation as they compete for another Copley Guitar Trophy and for the fame of being the All American 400 winner.

The series does have a To Be Announced date of September 20th for an event that is still in the planning stages. The schedule is tentative until that date can be announced and any other event changes.
