Third Annual Boyne Machine Weekend To Feature $10,000 To Win CRA Super Series Event

Salem, IN (January 5, 2008) – The Boyne Machine Company of Jenison, Michigan has announced that the Third Annual Boyne Machine Weekend on September 12 & 13, 2008 will feature a $10,000 to win CRA Super Series 125 lap event at the famed Berlin Raceway located in Marne, Michigan. Last seasons CRA Super Series event at Berlin was originally scheduled for May 26 but that event was rained out. Boyne Machine's Mike Blackmer came forward to suggest adding the CRA event to his regular September weekend. Boyne Machine sweetened the deal for the CRA Super Series 125 lap event by raising the purse from the regular pay of $3,000 to win, all the way up to $7,500 to win. The 2008 non-pit stop event will go even further paying $10,000 to win, $5000 for second, $3000 for third down to $525 to start!

"We are really excited that we have been invited to be a part of the Third Annual Boyne Machine Weekend at Berlin Raceway," remarked Glenn Luckett, CRA Super Series Director. "We greatly appreciate Mike Blackmer and his partners at Boyne Machine for putting up an outstanding purse for this awesome event. Our events at Berlin Raceway have always featured great racing from the very talented group of local drivers who participate and from our series veterans. This race will be one of the premier template late model events held in the country this year!"

The Third Annual Boyne Machine Weekend will also have racing action from the USA Modifieds joining the five local divisions from Berlin Raceway including the Outlaw Late Models, Super Stocks, Pro Stocks, Sportsman and 4-Cylinders. Feature racing will be held on both nights. The event will draw over 200 racecars for all the divisions. The purse payout for the weekend will be over $130,000. The event will be managed by the Boyne Machine Company, which will be leasing the track for the weekend from West Michigan Whitecaps Racing.

"When we first started hosting this race two years, we wanted to make this the track's signature event," said Mike Blackmer. "If we are going to be investing this must into this race, then we want to promote it. We have formed a committee and are going to lease the track this time. We now want to make this event one of the biggest short track racing events in the country!"

Battle Creek, Michigan veteran late model racer Fred Campbell used his years of experience at Berlin Raceway to capture last seasons Boyne Machine 125 Presented By Centennial Wireless and Spray Power. The ten-time track champion at the tricky oval let 2007 CRA Super Series Rookie Of The Year John Van Doorn lead the first 104 laps, then used his better tires to reel in Van Doorn and pass for the lead on lap 105 and then cruised to a six second victory. The victory was the seventh for Campbell with the CRA Super Series and the third with the series at Berlin Raceway.

It looked like Fred’s son Brian would be the car to beat last season, as he was at the top of the speed charts during most of the practices and lead a group of 13 drivers who broke the series track record in Appleton Rack & Pinion qualifying. The younger Campbell drew a five for the events invert putting Van Doorn from nearby Coopersville, Michigan on the pole. Van Doorn, a former full time competitor at Berlin, used his past experience to take the lead at the drop of the green flag, leading by as much as ten seconds at one point early in the race. Van Doorn would settle for second, with Chris Anthony in third, Alec Carl in fourth and Brian Campbell in fifth.
