Winchester Speedway Releases 2009 Schedule

Winchester, IN (December 2, 2008) – Officials from Winchester Speedway and track promoters Champion Racing Association (CRA) have released the 2009 schedule for the legendary high banked ½ mile track in East Central Indiana. Speedway owner Charlie Shaw has secured CRA to promote and manage the Speedway again in 2009 after four successful seasons of that company’s management of the tracks events. CRA leaders R. J. Scott, Glenn Luckett and Greg Wood have prepared a diverse and entertaining eight-event schedule based on the successful events in 2008 and an interesting new event for 2009.

After an open practice on Saturday, April 18th, the season will open on Sunday, April 19th with the traditional Rich Vogler Classic for the exciting USAC National Sprint Cars along with the high-powered CRA Super Series Late Models. The event will give race fans the opportunity to see some of the best open wheel and stock car drivers on the same race program. The season opener will also feature racing action from the CRA Street Stocks and Vore’s Welding & Steel CRA FWD Compacts.

The King Of The Wing Sprint Car Invitational will hit the high banks on Sunday, May 17th, more details on this high speed racing event will be released in the near future. This event will also feature racing action from the CRA Street Stocks and Vore’s Welding & Steel CRA FWD Compacts.

On Thursday night July 2nd Thursday Night Thunder will return for a pre Fourth of July holiday treat featuring the USAC National Sprint Cars. This event will give fans fireworks on the track and in the sky with a special fireworks show after the night’s racing action. This show will also include a special CRA Street Stock event and another support division to be named later as part of the racing action.

The 3rd Annual Randolph County Appreciation Day will return on Sunday, July 19th and will once again be a special day for local race fans as Randolph County residents will receive a discounted admission for a full day of entertainment including racing action from the ARCA Lincoln Welder Truck Series, the O’Reilly USA Modified Series, The Howe CRA Late Model Sportsman Series and the Vore’s Welding & Steel CRA FWD Compacts.

On Saturday night August 15th Winchester Speedway will have its first ever "Night Of Destruction" that will include stunts, crashes and thrills on the famous High Banks. This is one event you will not want to miss, more exciting details on this action packed event will be coming soon!

The historic World Stock Car Festival is scheduled on Labor Day Weekend after four very successful years in a row and will once again feature a great combination of racing, camping, music and parties. Saturday, September 5th will be an open practice day for all cars and the grandstands will be free to the public. Sunday and Monday, September 6th & 7th will see up to seven different stock car divisions compete for their World Stock Car Festival crown. The CRA Super Series Late Models will headline the action, along with the O’Reilly USA Modified Series and Short Track Trucks. The weekend will also include racing for the Howe CRA Late Model Sportsman Series, CRA Street Stocks, Vore’s Welding & Steel CRA FWD Compacts and ThunderCars. There will be practice, qualifying, heat races and a couple of features on Sunday. Monday will be features only for a full afternoon of racing action for up to seven different divisions. There will be a party in the pavilion on Sunday night, it will be tough to top last season’s Labor Day party, but it will be fun trying!

Another great Winchester Speedway tradition will take place on Saturday & Sunday, October 3rd & 4th with the famed Old Timers Weekend, which had a very successful return in 2008. The 2009 rendition will give fans racing action on both days with the USAC National Sprint Cars and USAC National Midgets along with the Old Timer Cars which will be on display all weekend and on the track doing laps for all the fans to see. There will be racing action on Saturday from the CRA Street Stocks and on Sunday from the Howe CRA Late Model Sportsman Series. There will also be a party Saturday night after the races are over!

On Sunday, October 18th Winchester Speedway will see the CRA Super Series return for the prestigious 38th Annual Winchester 400, an event that saw racers from all over the country come to challenge the High Banks for a grueling 400 lap shootout last year along with NASCAR stars David Stremme and Kyle Busch. After a long day of racing it was Stremme getting the victory over Busch after the two put on a heated battle through out the closing laps. Busch vowed to return to get his name on the famed Winchester 400 Winners T-Shirt, Stremme looks to return to defend his win.

The Winchester 400 Weekend will start off on Friday, October 16th with open practice for all cars. The Howe CRA Late Model Sportsman Series and CRA Street Stocks will have special non-point events on Friday along with the Vore’s Welding & Steel CRA FWD Compacts Season Championship event.
