Braselton, GA (December 4, 2008) –
Officials from Champion Racing Association (CRA) Super Series, the
Georgia Asphalt Series (GAS) and Lanier National Speedway near
Atlanta, announced today that "SpeedFest 2009" has moved to the
beautiful Georgia facility. Super Late Model teams, Pro Late Model
teams and fans will gather for the 5th annual event, January 24-25,
2009.
The North/South Super Late Model shoot-out
began 5 years ago at the now
closed
USA International Speedway in Florida. With USA International
Speedway’s closure, teams and fans were looking for a new home for the
event and found it at Lanier National Speedway. The Speedway’s recent
purchase of the GAS series made for a perfect opportunity to bring the
two groups together for the first, major, National Event of the year.
The Super Late Models will be competing for a
chance to win $10,000 in the 200 lap event, while the Pro-Late Models
will be competing for $3000 to win in their 100 lap event. To add even
more excitement to the weekend, track officials will be announcing in
the coming weeks, a major bonus to any driver that can with both the
Super Late Model and the Pro-Late Model portions of the event.
"I believe SpeedFest has found a great home,"
noted Lanier National Speedway General Manager Terry Roberts. "We’re
honored that our facility will host the top Super and Pro Late Model
teams in the country in the traditional battle of North and South
drivers"
The Super Late Model event will be under the
direction of CRA’s Glenn Luckett and R. J. Scott, while Roberts and
the GAS Series officials will direct the Pro-Late Model activities.
While these sanctioning bodies will direct the on-track activities,
officials want to be very clear that this is an "open" event. "We
welcome teams from all over the country and different organizations to
be part of this weekend," commented CRA managing partner R. J. Scott.
"With special events like this, we try to be very accommodating to
racers from all different series, both in equalizing the rules and our
general ‘All Are Welcome’ demeanor."
Speed51.com will be the "Official Website" for
SpeedFest 2009, with complete stories, up-dates, and their usual
"behind the scenes" coverage, unprecedented in short track racing. For
those that can’t make the event,

official tire for both series.
