CRA Super Series Set
To Open 2008 Season At Anderson Speedway
Salem, IN (April 9, 2008) –
The CRA Super Series is set to open its 2008 racing season in the
Great Deals 125 at Anderson Speedway this Saturday, April 12th.
The famous high-banked quarter mile racetrack located in Anderson,
Indiana has hosted more CRA Super Series events than any other track
since the series first event ever event on Saturday, April 26, 1997.
Anderson Speedway has had a total of 43 CRA Super Series events to
date. Former two time series champion Brian Ross is the all-time
series victory
leader at Anderson Speedway with nine victories.
Three former series Champions head a
list of talented drivers entered for Saturday’s event including 1997
Champion Kenny Tweedy and 1998 Champion Brian Rievley, both racing
cars for long time series car owner Ken Muller and his Muller
Motorsports Team with long time late model guru Bill Rievley turning
the wrenches on both cars. Tweedy is second in series all time wins at
Anderson Speedway with four while Rievley has been to victory lane
with the series at Anderson Speedway one time and was the 1997
Anderson Speedway Late Model Champion.
Two time series Champion Scott Hantz
has also entered this weekend’s event, he also has one series victory
at Anderson Speedway. 2006 series Driver Champion Jeff Lane is
entered, Lane has two series victories at Anderson Speedway. Other
former Anderson winners entered include former ASA Racing Series
competitor Jack Landis, series veteran Rick Turner, former Street
Stock Champion at Anderson Speedway and winner of the Anderson 400 in
2001 Bull Baker who will switch to number 15 driving for Jay Seal
instead of his familiar number 78 he has campaigned for several
seasons with the series.
2007 CRA Super Series rookie of the
year John VanDoorn has also filed an entry for Saturday’s event in his
quest for the 2008 series Championship. The 20 year old claimed his
first series victory in a very impressive performance in last seasons
Budweiser 250 at Anderson Speedway. VanDoorn would go on to finish
second in series points to
Champion Chris Gabehart and also scored another impressive victory in
the season ending All American 400 at the Music City Motorplex in
Nashville, Tennessee.
The CRA Super Series has a very
impressive rookie class campaigning for the K & N Filters Rookie Of
The Year Award that will begin with Saturdays race. One of those
rookie’s is a familiar face to local open wheel racing fans, Muncie,
Indiana native Aaron Pierce is set to make his CRA Super Series rookie
debut in Saturday’s event driving a third car for the Muller
Motorsports team. Pierce has campaigned Sprint cars in the prestigious
Little 500 Sprint Car event at Anderson Speedway, he finished second
in 2004, sat on the pole in 2006, and has led 114 laps of that event.
Zach Taylor, from Hartsville,
Tennessee is another impressive rookie in this season’s class driving
for Jim Mougeotte’s Great Deals racing team as a teammate to Rick
Turner with 2007 series Champion Chris Gabehart as his Crew Chief.
2007 Super Pro Late Model Series Champion Tommy Cook has teamed up
with veteran series car owner Floyd Fehl of Ft. Wayne to compete for
rookie honors in 2008. Other drivers in the rookie class include
Anderson’s own Donald Karr Jr., Wisconsin drivers Robert Maynor and
Josh Bauer, Illinois driver Nick Baran and Michigan driver Adam Purdy.
Other drivers entered
for Saturday’s event include Sean Matthuis from Illinois, Jason
Dietsch, and A.J. Ganino from Ohio, Indiana’s Jason Shively, JR
Roahrig and Terry Fisher Jr., and David Flynn who will make his first
ever series start coming from Seymour, Tennessee.
There will be an open
practice on Friday, April 11th, pits open at 3pm, practice
will go from 4 until 8pm. Pits will open on Saturday, April 12th
at 12noon, practice will be from 3 to 4pm, qualifying will be at
5:30pm, the race program will begin at 7pm and will include the Great
Deals 125 for the CRA Super Series. For information on this weekends
