Gabehart and Lawler Have Chance At $10,000 Triple Crown Bonus In Nashville

Van Doorn Leads Triple Crown Points

Salem, IN (October 29, 2007) – 2007 CRA Super Series Champion Chris Gabehart and Colleyville, Texas native Ryan Lawler both have a chance to win a $10,000 bonus if either one can win this coming weekends historic Adam Petty Memorial All American 300 CRA Super Series sanctioned event at the famed Music City Motorplex at the Fairgrounds in Nashville, Tennessee. Sunday’s event will be the third leg of the CRA Super Series Triple Crown, which would have paid a $50,000 bonus if one driver could have won all three Triple Crown events.

Gabehart was victorious in The 100 with the inaugural Circle Track Nationals at O’Reilly Raceway Park on September 22nd, the first leg of the Triple Crown. Lawler then won the 36th Annual Winchester 400 Presented By Ed Martin Auto Group and Renegade on the famous High Banks of Winchester Speedway on October 14th, the second leg of the Triple Crown. There will not be a $50,000 bonus awarded, but a second $10,000 bonus was offered if any driver could win two of the Triple Crown events, of which Gabehart and Lawler both have a chance. With the event paying $10,000 to win, one of those two drivers could take home $20,000 for a victory Sunday.

Gabehart has had some success racing at the Music City Motorplex in the past including a fourth place finish in the CRA Super Series sanctioned All American event in 2005, and a fifth place finish in the Spring Clash 150 season opener at the Music City Motorplex. Gabehart was the Fast Qualifier for last November’s All American event and was running with the leaders when a late mechanical problem dropped him to a 20th place finish. Gabehart had an exceptional 2007 Championship season getting three victories along with nine top fives and 12 top tens in 13 series point’s events.

This weekend’s event will be the first for Lawler with the CRA Super Series at the Music City Motorplex, but don’t expect that to slow down this 20-year-old hot shoe. Lawler had never raced at Winchester Speedway until this past September when he raced the CRA Super Series Labor Day Weekend event. Lawler preceded to set fast time for that event and was running in the top five when he got caught up in an accident after the second place car spun in front of him while running in fourth. Lawler came back for the Winchester 400 and set a new track record in claiming the pole. Lawler then went on to claim his biggest victory to date over John Van Doorn and NASCAR Nextel Cup driver David Stremme.

There is a third possible bonus with the Triple Crown, if there are no repeat winners in the three events, then the driver with the most points scored in the three events will receive a $5,000 bonus. Heading into this weekends event 2007 CRA Super Series Rookie Of The Year John Van Doorn is the Triple Crown Points leader by 23 points, with a total of 202 points, which he earned with second place finishes in both Triple Crown events to date. Van Doorn has also had a spectacular 2007 season getting a win in the CRA Super Series Budweiser 250 at Anderson Speedway along with 4 Outlaw Late Model wins and finished only 39 points behind Gabehart in second in CRA Super Series Championship points. The HS Motorsports Team, owned by former ARCA RE/MAX Series great Tim Steele, has now become a legitimate threat to win at any race they compete at.

Gabehart is currently second in Triple Crown points with 179 points, he finished 13th in the Winchester 400 after a broken hub ended his day on lap 371. CRA veteran Rick Turner is currently third in Triple Crown points with 178 points including a seventh place finish at ORP and a fourth place finish at Winchester. North Carolina veteran Dennis Schoenfeld is fourth with 174 points, he finished sixth at ORP and seventh at Winchester. Former NASCAR Elite Series Champion Jeff Fultz is fifth with 166 points, he finished ninth at ORP and eighth at Winchester. Lawler did not compete in the ORP event, so he is not eligible for the point’s bonus.

Action at the Music City Motorplex will begin on Friday with an open practice for the CRA Super Series and ASA Late Model Series from 2 until 7pm Central Time. On Saturday both divisions will practice and qualify, the ASA Late Models will run a 25 lap GM Performance Shoot-out and their All American 200 event that evening. Sunday’s events will start with an on track autograph session at 11:30am. The Blue-Gray 100 to determined the last five starters in the Adam Petty Memorial All American 300 will take the green flag at 1pm and will be followed by the Adam Petty Memorial All American 300.
