Special from Team 21 Racing
THE "MAGIC MAN" APPEARS IN BERLIN'S VICTORY LANE!!!!
Marne, MI (May 12, 2007) - For most of his driving career, Johnny
VanDoorn was known as "THE KID".....he was young and fast and
everyone would say "Who's that KID?".......after Saturday nights 50
lap feature at Berlin, he can be called "The Magic Man".....because
the other drivers could see him under caution...but when the green
flag fell, he was gone....now you see him-now you don't.
The
day started out with a strong car in practice.....both John and
Jason were pleased with how the car reacted to a new setup that John
tried. In the second practice, John took just a couple of laps and
said the car was good....time to qualify. He went on to qualify
6th, and with the inversion he would start third.
For
the heat race, John flexed his muscle passing cars on the outside
from his sixth starting position.
John started inside the second row and from the drop of the green
flag, set his sights on the lead. He raced side by side with Lee
Anderson for nine laps before finally passing him and the leader,
Dakota Carlson on the same lap. With a firm grip on the lead, John
made his way through lap traffic to stretch his lead to over two
seconds at one point. The only thing that slowed John down was the
yellow flag. Each time the caution came out, John would checkout on
the restarts extending his lead to over three seconds by the crew's
watch.
Then finally....after three years of hit and miss success at Berlin,
John took the checkered flag!!!! He celebrated with the fans
taking the checkered flag for a "Polish Victory Lap".
The
team was a little sleepy eyed Saturday, after deciding late Thursday
night to take the same car to Toledo and race in their 50 lap tune
up for their Gold Cup Series. John took the #71 out on the track
and was second fast in practice and qualified fourth. He started
the feature 5th with a fast car. He followed Harold Fair Sr. which
cost him some valuable time, before finally over taking him. He
went on to finish fifth in his first ever race at Toledo. The team
arrived back to the shop late and started to change over the car for
Berlin. Many hours were spent to get the #71 car ready for
Berlin.....and the time paid off!!!!
Special
thanks.....we could not name everyone
who had a hand in getting John where he was Saturday night, Victory
Lane. So a big:
THANK YOU to everyone who has ever turned a wrench on one of his
cars
THANK YOU to everyone who lent us a part or a tool
THANK YOU to everyone who has spent hours traveling around to
different tracks
THANK YOU to all the family members who have made all of this work
fun. Everyone knows that racing takes a lot of time...and the whole
VanDoorn/Coopersville clan (also known as the Coopersville Mafia)
have made this fun.
and finally....
THANK YOU to Jason Sytsma.....J-Dog....you took a driver with a ton
of talent and team that needed direction, and took us to Victory
Lane...we can't wait to visit there again!!!!
