Special from VanDoorn Racing

VanDoorn Excited About New Car, New Crew Chief For 2007 Season.

The 2007 season is about to kick off for Johnny VanDoorn and his 21Racing Team. The Coopersville, Michigan teen is looking forward to a new car, new motor, and especially, a new crew chief. “I’m really excited about 2007.  We ran six CRA races in 2006 and learned a lot from those races.  We are now better prepared going to the track and have better equipment as well.  I feel we did a phenomenal job in 2006 considering the equipment we had to use and the fact that we did not have a crew chief.  For 2007, Jason Sytsma will be calling all the shots for the team and his past experience, will help our team tremendously.”

Jason Sytsma has worked with many top short track drivers including, Dave Sensiba and Mike Eddy in ASA as well as Lee Anderson in outlaw late models. Jason worked with VanDoorn for 5 outlaw late model races in 2006 and is also looking forward to the 2007 season:  “Johnny and I clicked from the start. We have similar ideas on what to change on the car to make it handle better. It is not hard to see that at 18 years of age, Johnny has the God given natural talent and drive to be the best in the business. He’s highly self motivated and motivates others around him as well. He works at Port City Race Cars and has learned an awful lot in a short time working on race cars full time. Johnny also gives excellent feedback, which makes adjusting the car in at the track easier.”

Johnny is looking forward to working with Jason as well.  “Jason and I were on the same page from the first day.  He’s very thorough, organized and highly motivated.  Jason has said that he does not race to finish second, and I like that kind of fire.  He’s also an excellent fabricator and mechanic. We get along great on and off the track too, which is important.  Racing in the CRA series takes a lot of time in the shop and on the road. Someone as talented as Jason leading our team is awesome.  Throw in a great personality and that makes for great communication between driver and crew chief, which is just another tool to help our team continue to be successful.
