Salem, IN (July 5, 2007) -
Several CRA Street Stock competitors had good runs in Wednesday's
Firecracker 200 event at Salem Speedway. The event was won by third
generation driver Frank Kimmel II, son of 8 time ARCA RE/MAX Series
Champion Frank Kimmel. Kimmel II won the CRA Street Stock event at
Winchester Speedway on May 6th, it was his first ever feature win in
a street stock. Kimmel II got the lead late in the event when leader
Brett Hudson had problems on a restart.
Brian Hopkins, currently sixth in CRA
Street Stock points, finished in second and was one of only three
cars remaining on the lead lap. Rich Boyer, currently second in
series points finished in fourth, one lap down. Calvin Parham, who
drivers for series fourth place in points owner Steve Davis,
finished 14th after running as high as second before driveline
problems sidelined him late in the event.
Beau Mitchell, a five time 2006 CRA
Street Stock winner at Winchester Speedway, finished in 15th after
running in the front of the field most of the event before suffering
mechanical problems that also ended his day late in the event
resulting in a 15th place finish.
Champion Racing Association Co-owner
R.J. Scott made his 2007 racing debut in the Firecracker 200 on
Wednesday. Scott, a veteran of the famed Halloween 200 also at Salem
Speedway, fought through some early issues with his car to have his
day end on lap 170 with transmission problems while running in the
top 10. Scott finished in 19th despite missing the last 30 laps of
the event.
The next CRA Street Stock event will
