Old-Timers
Weekend To Return To Winchester Speedway in 2008
Winchester, IN (December 11, 2007) -
The 2008 Winchester Speedway season will see a renewal of a quarter
century tradition. Under the astute leadership of Bob McConnell, the
Winchester Speedway Old-Timers Weekend was one of the real gems of the
vintage open wheel community in years past, bringing historic cars and
drivers each year to the famous High Banks for open wheel fans to see.

After an absence of a number of
years, Winchester Speedway owner Charlie Shaw along with Champion
Racing Association’s Glenn Luckett and RJ Scott, the promoters of
Winchester Speedway, have decided to bring the event back on the 2008
schedule on Saturday and Sunday, September 27th and 28th
in conjunction with a USAC National Sprint Car race on that Sunday.
Sprint Car and Midget Magazine will be one of the sponsors for the
event and longtime vintage racecar writer Bill Holder will serve as
the event coordinator of the Old-Timers events that weekend.
"The first day of the event will be
strictly a car display day with the cars available for close
examination from 10am-to-5pm," remarked Holder. "The second day, the
cars will again be on display except for track time following
qualifications. It should be a thrill for the vintage participants
being able to expose their cars on the track in front of a full house
of fans. There is no additional charge for viewing the static display
on either day."
Planning is also underway to have a
number of the USAC Midget and Sprint Car drivers that ran at this
historic track in earlier years as guest for that weekend. It should
also be noted that there is another Indiana vintage show at Jungle
Park in western Indiana on Saturday. Wouldn't it be a great fall
Indiana weekend of vintage cars to make both of the events?
