CRA Street Stocks To
Make First Visit To Angola
Salem, IN (December 13, 2007)
– Champion Racing Association and the management of Angola Motor
Speedway are pleased to announce that three divisions of CRA will
compete at the Northern Indiana track owned by businessman Dick
Poe
in 2008. The CRA Super Series and the Howe CRA Sportsman Series will
compete together on Thursday night, July 3rd to kick off
the big July 4th Holiday Weekend. It will be the 13th
event for the CRA Super Series at Angola Motor Speedway, Angola native
Scott Hantz is the all time series win leader at Angola with 3
victories driving for Dick Poe Motorsports at what many consider his
home track. Veteran late model racer Bobby Blount is second with two
victories while seven series veterans are tied with one victory a
piece including Junior Hanley, Kenny Tweedy, JR Roahrig, Eddie Van
Meter, Brian Rievley, Jeff Lane and Tim Felver.
The July 3rd event will be
the first ever Howe CRA Sportsman event at Angola Motor Speedway. The
track is no stranger to several series competitors including 2007
series runner-up in points Rick Rinehart who won a Sportsman
Championship at Angola in 2006, he got his first Howe CRA Sportsman
series win the following day at the 2006 Labor Day Weekend event at
Winchester Speedway.
The CRA Street Stocks will make their
first ever visit to Angola Motor Speedway on Saturday,
July
26th in a 75 lap event were they will team with the
Modifieds to headline the race action that evening.
1998 CRA Super Series Champion Brian
Rievley saved the best for the end, running second for much of the
race, battling brake problems, before passing Jack Landis in turn four
on the 117th lap to win the Hargus Mullins Memorial 125 presented by
EMF Corp. and Centennial Wireless CRA Super Series event on June 30th,
2007. Rievley won in the same car and for the same team Eddie Van
Meter had gotten his first Angola and CRA Super Series victory at the
same event in 2006. Landis finished right on Rievley’s tail in
second. Jeff Lane was third, early race leader John Van Doorn was
fourth, Jason Dietsch fifth and Scott Hantz drove through the field
after an early spin to finish sixth. Less than one second separated
Landis and Hantz as the pack of cars raced for the checkered flag.
Wes and Crimson Parrish will return
to manage Angola Motor Speedway again in 2008 for owners Dick and
Jackie Poe. The track went through extensive renovations during the
2004 season and is now one of the premier short-tracks in the region.
