Winchester, IN (August 23, 2007) – NASCAR Nextel Cup driver David Stremme tested his CRA Super Series late model on the High Banks of Winchester Speedway this past Wednesday in preparation for the 36^th Annual Winchester 400 Presented By The Ed Martin Auto Group and Renegade on Sunday, October 14^th. As was previously announced the former CRA Super Series competitor will be competing in that event in hopes of adding his name to the list of winners of that prestigious event.

"That’s my goal is to come and win," remarked Stremme. "If you look at the names of the drivers that have won the Winchester 400, it’s pretty impressive, if you look at the list of drivers who have competed in it and have not one, it is also impressive, I would like for my name to be on the winners list. I’m planning on bringing my pit crew with me, we will have to start at the tail, but it’s a long race and we plan to be there at the end battling for the win!"

The South Bend, Indiana native will be competing in a Hamke Chassis with a McGunegill Sealed Engine. Stremme had company at his test as fellow Hamke late model competitors Justin Drawdy from Ft. Pierce, Florida and Ryan Lawler from Centerville, Texas were also on hand getting there first ever laps at Winchester Speedway. Both drivers will be back to compete in the Winchester 400. Lawler is thinking of coming back to compete in next week’s Winchester 100 Presented By McGunegill Engine Performance on Labor Day Weekend to get some extra seat time before the 400.

"This place is awesome," remarked Lawler. "Robert (Hamke) told me this place would show how much of a man I am, and he’s right, it is intimidating and fast, but I love it. I can’t wait to come back and race."

"We don’t have any tracks in Florida that are anything like this," remarked Drawdy. "We carry a lot of speed into the corner at USA International Speedway, but we are on the bottom, not driving straight at the wall like you do here. It’s a fast track, but I like it, we ran some good laps today, I am looking forward to coming back and racing in the 400 in October."

Stremme logged several laps in his Dodge getting the car faster as the test session went on. His test ended a little pre-mature after the car got loose and made contact with the turn one retaining wall.

"I got a Winchester stripe on it now. It just did a little bit of damage, but it just goes to show you have to be up on the wheel every lap here, or she will reach out and bite you! The car was good, I felt real comfortable, this will help me get ready for the 400 and 500 laps at Bristol this weekend!"

All three drivers took time out of their test session for a Press Conference hosted by the racetrack to help promote the 36^th Annual Winchester 400 Presented By The Ed Martin Auto Group and Renegade. Several members of the press were on hand along with some special guest of the speedway. Stremme explained why he made time in his busy schedule to compete in the 400 and help promote the event.

"This track has some great history, just look at all the famous drivers that have raced here over the years. My parents use to bring me here to watch the races, this has always been one of my favorite tracks. I wanted to participate in this event to do my part in helping build the 400 back to one of the biggest stock car events in the country. Charlie Shaw has put a lot of time, effort and money into this track to keep it going over the past several years, he also helped sponsor me when I first started in a late model. I’m happy to do what ever I can to help promote the 400 and Winchester Speedway!"

Stremme will not arrive for the 400 until that Sunday morning of the race after competing in the NASCAR Bush Series event on Friday night and the NASCAR Nextel Cup event on that Saturday night at Lowe’s Motor Speedway in Charlotte, North Carolina. Since Stremme will miss qualifying for the 400 on that Saturday, he will have to start the event at the back of the field, but will have 400 laps and his NASCAR pit crew to help him get to the front.

The 36^th Annual Winchester 400 Weekend features three days of racing, from October 12th to the 14^th, culminating on Sunday, in the only true 400 lap Super Late Model event in short track racing throughout the country. Preliminary events held on Friday and Saturday include feature events for the Midwest’s top Compact F.W.D., Street Stock, Sportsman, Crate Late Model, and Open Wheel Modified racers. Camping, music and the Cup Race Big Screen TV Party, have all added to the allure of the Winchester 400 Weekend for race fans.
