ARCA RE/MAX Series, ARCA Lincoln Welders Truck Series Rally at Winchester; Weekend Short-Track Thriller Coming May 5 & 6

 

WINCHESTER IN (4-21-07)—The ARCA RE/MAX Series, well-known for following one of the most diverse short track schedules in all of racing, is gearing up for another short-track thriller Sunday afternoon, May 6 when the Winchester ARCA 200 rolls off at Winchester Speedway.

 

The event marks the 20th appearance of the RE/MAX Series at Winchester since its inaugural run on the historical high-banked oval in 1964.

 

The busy weekend also includes an appearance from the ARCA Lincoln Welders Truck Series, which races the night before Saturday, May 5. Also on the race card for the weekend will be the CRA Street Stocks and CRA Sportsman cars.

 

Pre-entries for the Winchester ARCA 200 already include 8-time ARCA RE/MAX Series national champion and 5-time Winchester winner Frank Kimmel and 5-time Daytona ARCA 200 winner Bobby Gerhart.

 

Kimmel tested at Winchester On Thursday, April 19th in preparation for the race. “Test went very well,” said Kimmel. “About like we thought it would but we were very happy with the way the car handled. We’re probably as confident as we’ve ever been at Winchester.”

 

A healthy mix of Driver Development teams are also entered including a Brewco Motorsports entry with Marion, Illinois rookie Phillip McGilton in the driver’s seat. McGilton also tested at Winchester the same day as Kimmel along with the Hardcore Motorsports team with Jason Hedlesky driving. Brewco Motorsports fields fulltime NASCAR Busch Series teams.

 

Also entered is a Cunningham Motorsports Dodge Development entry with Bridgewater, New Jersey rookie Rob Bunker in the driver’s seat as well as two from the Eddie Sharp Racing Driver Development team with drivers’ Michael McDowell of Phoenix, Arizona and rookie Ken Butler III of Sherrills Ford, North Carolina.

 

Former ARCA RE/MAX Series winners at Winchester include series champions’ Kimmel, Tim Steele, Tracy Leslie, Marvin Smith, Jack Bowsher and Bob Keselowski. Other former winners include Gary Bradberry, Ralph Latham, Bob Strait and Bobby Watson.

 

Steele is the current RE/MAX Series one-lap track record holder with a time of 16.357 seconds, an average speed of 110.045 mph.

 

The two-day race format includes RE/MAX Series practice on Saturday from 1:30 to 3:30pm with Pole Award Qualifying at 4:15. Racing begins at 5:30 Saturday for the ARCA Lincoln Welders Truck Series as well as local Street Stock and Sportsman divisions.

 

The Winchester ARCA 200 rolls off next-day Sunday, May 6 at 1pm. The CRA Street Stock 50 lap feature follows.
