Plymouth Speedway added to 2006 CRA Super Series
Schedule
The June 11th
Event will be a Special, Non-points Race to Prepare for a Return to
the Full Schedule in 2007
Salem, IN (March 31, 2006) –
Officials from Champion Racing Association (CRA) announced today that
the recently re-opened Plymouth Speedway will host a special
non-points event on
Sunday,
June 11th. Plymouth Speedway’s new leaders, Bobby Blount
and Tom Smith, have been competitors with the CRA Super Series, and
wanted to give their fans a taste of the great things that are in the
future for the northern Indiana facility…including a return to the
Championship Chase schedule of the CRA Super Series in 2007. The June
11th event this year will also be a high-profile
opportunity for the Speedway to showcase many of their improvements,
including the refurbishing of buildings, select bleacher replacements,
a renovated pit area including concrete pit slabs and a track surface
repair and update program.
"Bobby and Tom have been great
supporters of the CRA Super Series through the years, and with their
purchase of Plymouth Speedway, wanted to see their facility back on
the full CRA Schedule," noted CRA founder and Managing Partner R. J.
Scott. "They knew that they were a year away from being on the full
schedule and the higher cost of a full points earning event, but they
wanted a smaller event in 2006 to prepare for 2007."
The non-points special event will be
a 100 lap race, with a minimum of $2000 to win and $250 to start, with
increased money coming from four different bonus programs. Additional
money will be paid to the top three finishers from the top 30 in Super
Late Model points from Illiana or Grundy Speedways, the top three
finishing teams utilizing a crate engine, the top three finishing
teams from the top 30 in CRA Points, and finally, the top three
finishers from the remaining group of teams that aren’t eligible for
the previously mentioned bonus programs. The promoters have noted that
this is a minimum purse and are working with sponsors to increase it.
The event will be run much like a
normal CRA Super Series event, with CRA rules, officials and Hoosier
3035 and 3045 tires. Given the non-conflicting date, track officials
will also be working hard to secure involvement from the teams from
Grundy Speedway, Illiana Speedway, ASA Late Model Series and the MISS
SuperPro Series. "The CRA rules are a perfect match for this race
track," commented Speedway owner Tom Smith. "From crate engines to 9
to 1’s, from steel heads to the Ace engines, everyone’s got a fair
shake at Plymouth Speedway and the way the rules are laid out with the
different weight breaks."
"This is great opportunity for
Plymouth Speedway," commented Promoter Bobby Blount. "We are working
hard to make this a great place for both the racers and fans, and
bringing in the CRA Super Series is a way to show our commitment to
our fans of providing the best entertainment possible. We appreciate
the support the CRA leaders have given us, and we look forward to
having the teams support this event and see the improvements we’ve
made."
The CRA Super Series last raced at
Plymouth Speedway in 2002 where Scott Hantz claimed his third victory
at Plymouth in only four series event at the 3/8 mile speedplant.
"Plymouth has traditionally been one of the most exciting places we’ve
raced at," noted CRA Super Series Director and Partner Glenn Luckett.
"Not only do we see great side by side racing, but if my memory serves
me correctly, the last couple of races there we never hooked a wrecker
to a race car. It’s racy, roomy and fun for everyone. We’re excited to
go back there and see the great work that Bobby and Tom are doing."
The next event on the CRA Super
Series schedule is a return to Anderson Speedway, the birthplace of
the series on Saturday April 15. The opening date for Plymouth
Speedway is Sunday May 14th, featuring a Mother’s Day
Special of half off for all Mothers. Plymouth’s regular Sunday night
show will feature Outlaw Late Models, ThunderCars, Mini-Stocks, and
Front Wheel Drives. They will host other specials including Outlaw
Winged Sprints and CRA Street Stocks.
