Roush Racing
Development Driver Sondi Eden To Compete With The CRA Super Series
The National Guard To
Sponsor Eden’s Ride
Salem, IN (February 22, 2006)
– Hendricks County Motorsports owner
Jim
Winters announced today that Roush Racing Development Driver Sondi
Eden will compete fulltime with the CRA Super Series during the 2006
season in a Hendricks County Motorsports late model. The
Crawfordsville, Indiana native was a member of the Roush Racing Search
For Driver X program that was aired in a series of 13 shows on the
Discovery Channel starting in October and ending just a few weeks ago.
The open wheel competitor was one of
just two females in the original group of 25 drivers that were chosen
from 1,700 original applicants for the contest in which the winner
would receive a full ride in a NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series ride for
the 2006 season. Eden got to compete against the other drivers,
including 2004 CRA Super Series Champion Chuck Barnes Jr., in a Roush
Racing NASCAR Craftsman Truck at Martinsville Speedway and then got
invited back as a special returning guest to compete in the truck at
Darlington Speedway against the finalist of the show that was
eventually won by Erik Darnell. Roush was impressed with Eden’s
results, but saw the need for more experience driving stock cars.
"Roush saw a lot of potential," Eden
said, "and then I finished No. 1 in the viewers poll on the Discovery
Channel, which was a big deal. Roush decided to sign me as a
development driver and get me more experience in a stock car. It will
be neat competing at the tracks the CRA Super Series will visit in
2006, I know a lot of those tracks from racing open wheel shows at
them."
Signing with Roush Racing is just
another milestone in what has been a very successful racing career for
Eden that includes the distinction of being the first woman to win a
USAC Championship, when she claimed the USAC Regional Championship in
2004 while competing in a USAC Midget at the Indianapolis Speedrome.
That same season she was the Hoosier Outlaw Sprint Series Rookie Of
The Year after being one of the youngest competitors in the series
that season. Eden finished in 4th place in the 2005 Hoosier
Outlaw Sprint Series points.
Eden’s
main goal with the CRA Super Series is to get as many laps as possible
against some of the best late model drivers in the country, but wants
also to achieve as many top five finishes as possible and to capture
the 2006 CRA Super Series Rookie Of The Year.
"Coming from open-wheel to stocks
will be a change, but I adapted pretty quick to the NASCAR Craftsman
Truck at Martinsville and Darlington. We are basically going opposite
from faster to slower, but the car still has four wheels and I have to
race it. I’m just hoping to get comfortable in stock cars, it will
have to happen quick, because when you are competing for Roush Racing
you are expected to win!"
The National Guard will sponsor the
Sondi Eden Roush Racing Development Driver deal with the Hendricks
County Motorsports #10 late model. The Hendricks County Motorsports
#10 team, owned by Indianapolis, Indiana businessman Jim Winters, has
a history of success in late model racing with various drivers, most
recently with Purdue University Engineering graduate Chris Gabehart
competing part-time in 2003, finishing 5th in series points
and winning the CRA Super Series Rookie Of The Year Award in 2004 and
another 5th place finish in points and getting Gabehart’s
first CRA Super Series victory during the 2005 season. Gabehart
recently accepted an Engineering position with Hagans Racing, an ARCA
RE/Max Series race team based in Indianapolis, with a chance to
compete in selected ARCA RE/Max Series events during the 2006 season.
Legendary Central Indiana late model
driver and
Crew
Chief Jim Cooper will turn the wrenches for the Hendricks County
Motorsports team on Eden’s car, along with giving advice on how to get
a late model around most of the tracks the CRA Super Series will visit
in 2006.
Eden will make her CRA Super Series
debut in the All American 150 season opener
at the famed Music City Motorplex at
the Fairgrounds in Nashville, Tennessee on Saturday, March 18th.
