2006) – Anderson Speedway has a huge double header weekend
planned for Saturday, April 8 and Sunday, April 9. The racing action
kicks off with The Star Press Saturday Night Series featuring the CRA
Street Stock 250 along with the Chappy’s Rent to Own Front Wheel
Drives on the Oval and Figure 8.
On Saturday Night, race fans will see some of the premier Street
Stock drivers from around the area competing for $3,000 winner’s prize
in the 250-lap event. Among the early entries includes former winner
Phil Jenkins, CRA Super Series Champion Jeff Lane and Anderson
Speedway track champions Rich Boyer, Danny Acrey ll and Ronnie Phipps.
On Saturday, spectator gates open at 5 p.m. with racing beginning
at 8. Admission is $10 for adults and $4 for kids ages 6-12. Children
five and under get in free.
On Sunday, the 7th Annual Glen Niebel Classic featuring the USAC
National Sprints in the Banjo 100 will take place on the World’s
Fastest Quarter-Mile Oval. The Glen Niebel Classic has been increased
by 50 laps to its new 100 lap distance. Also, the CRA Sportsman will
make their debut at Anderson Speedway on Sunday afternoon in a 50-lap
event.
Jerry Coons Jr. of Tucson, Ariz. is the early leader in the 2006
USAC National Sprint Car standings. Coons scored the victory in the
season-opening event at the Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio, leading
a 1-2 team sweep. Teammate and fast qualifier Tracy Hines finished
second and was followed by Dave Darland, Jay Drake and Kevin Huntley.
Dave Steele is the defending champion of the Glen Niebel Classic,
while Jay Drake won at Anderson in 2004. Drake is fourth in the
current standings after his fourth-place Eldora finish.
On Sunday, spectator gates open at 11 a.m. with racing beginning at
2 p.m. Admission is $15 for adults, $4 for kids ages 6-12 and free for
kids five and under
