CRA to Return as Promoter and Manager of Events for
Winchester Speedway
ARCA RE/MAX Series
Return First Event Announced for 2006 Schedule
Winchester, IN (October 6, 2005)
– Officials from the Champion Racing Association (CRA) and
Winchester Speedway announced today that CRA would once again manage
and promote the legendary ½ mile oval in 2006. Winchester Speedway
owner Charlie Shaw noted it was an easy decision to continue with the
guidance that CRA leaders R. J. Scott and Glenn Luckett have provided.
"2005 was the best year the Speedway
has had since I purchased it in 1997," Shaw noted. "You never know
what to expect going into something like this, but I was very pleased
with the professionalism and industry knowledge that R. J. and Glenn
have, and it is something that I have always wanted for Winchester."
CRA was brought in to manage and
promote the Speedway after having been closed for the 2004 season. In
2005, seven events were planned with one being lost to weather. To
everyone’s delight, all events to date have been successful, ensuring
the return of the both the Speedway and CRA as the management team.
CRA is also the sanctioning body for top Midwest Late Models with the
CRA Super Series.
"We couldn’t
have gone into a better situation than the one Charlie provided for
us," Scott commented. "Charlie gave us a great facility and some great
people to work with, to go with the people we brought in and it has
worked out well. His support has been very important too, and I know
it sounds corny, but it’s starting to feel like family around
there…and that is good for everyone."
The 2006 season should look similar
to 2005 with the one exciting addition already in the return of the
ARCA RE/MAX Series on Sunday, May 7th. "The ARCA event had been one of
the most popular events in recent years at Winchester," noted Luckett,
"and we’re happy to have it back on the schedule and have the chance
to work with all the great people at ARCA again."
With the much anticipated return of
USAC still to come in the Rich
Vogler
Classic on Sunday October 16th, the highlight of the 2005 season to
date was the return of Labor Day Weekend’s "World Stock Car Festival."
The event was met with a great car count, crowd, camping, music and
parties and, as a result, the event is guaranteed to make its return
to the 2006 schedule. The complete details of the 2006 schedule are
planned for release in early January. Season ticket and reserved seat
information will follow soon after.
