Texas Corral Restaurants To
Sponsor 4th Annual Elmer Musgrave Memorial At Illiana Motor
Speedway
Salem, IN (May 31, 2005) –
Illiana Motor Speedway officials have announced that Texas Corral
Restaurants will be the sponsor of the 4th Annual Elmer
Musgrave Memorial CRA Super Series event on Saturday, June 25th.
This will be the second year in a row that the CRA Super Series has
sanctioned that
event,
it will be the third series event ever held at Illiana Motor Speedway.
Wheaton, Illinois driver Eddie
Hoffman set a new track record in qualifying and won last seasons
Elmer Musgrave Memorial. Hoffman’s victory was not a piece of cake, as
he had to battle CRA Super Series veteran Scott Hantz in the early
parts of the race for second place behind early leader 2004 CRA Super
Series Champion Chuck Barnes Jr. who lead the first 61 laps from his
pole starting position. Hoffman and Hantz raced several laps side by
side before Hantz’s car went away and eventually had to park for the
night on lap 63 with a broken trailing arm in the rear end. Hoffman
managed to get underneath Barnes Jr. on a restart on lap 61, and
eventually pulled away in the closing laps to get the victory, his
second consecutive victory in the event that honors Mid-west racing
legend Elmer Musgrave.
Hoffman is expected to have plenty of
competition at this season’s event, which could include six former
Illiana Motor Speedway Champions including Mike White the 1997, 1998
and 1999 Track Champion. Also Pat Kelly the 2000 Champion, Steve
Moenck the 2001 Champion, Boris Jurkovic the 2002 Champion, Dave
Weltmeyer the 2003 Champion and John Nutley the 2004 Champion.
The 4th Annual Elmer
Musgrave Memorial Presented By Texas Corral will be the second leg in
the Stash Kullman Chicagoland Showdown Bonus for the top 3 in combined
points between the CRA Super Series 7th Annual Rod Baker
Ford George Appleton Memorial 125 at Grundy County Speedway on Sunday,
June 12th and the 4th Annual Elmer Musgrave
Memorial Presented By Texas Corral. The Stash Kullman Chicagoland
Showdown Bonus will pay the top 3 guys in combined points between the
two events $5000, $2,500 for first, $1,500 for second, and $1000 for
third.
NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series driver
Ted Musgrave, son of Elmer Musgrave, will be on hand again as a
special guest for the event. Musgrave will be competing at the
Milwaukee Mile on Friday night June 24th in a NASCAR
Craftsman Truck Series event. The Illiana Motor Speedway Mid Am Cars
and Turbo Street Stocks will also be in action that night.
