Two Racing
Veterans Join CRA Super Series Tech Staff
Salem, IN (March 3, 2005)
– The highly respected Technical Inspection staff of the CRA Super Series
just got even better, with the addition of two racing veterans. Joining
Chief Technical inspector Darrel Teal, assistant Jesse Teal, and tire
impound official Rocky Anderson in Technical Inspection will be new
inspectors Jack Gritter and Eddie Chew.
Gritter is a Michigan racing
veteran whose career in late models saw him race in four different
decades. The Zeeland, Michigan resident retired from racing at the end of
the 2002 season. His mark on the racing community was so strong that
Berlin Raceway honored him with a retirement celebration complete with a
rocking chair that featured a 5-point safety harness. The respect for
Gritter went even further as the Grand Rapid Press named their annual
award for special achievement in racing, "The Jack Gritter Award."
"I’m really looking forward
to this year," commented Gritter. "I’ve enjoyed the CRA Super Series and
the people involved in it, so I know it is a great group to be a part of.
Darrel Teal (Chief Technical Inspector) does a great job, and I’m looking
forward to learning a lot of things from him. Hopefully, my experience
will be valuable too." Jack’s wife Deb will also be coming on board with
the Series to handle race-day administrative activities.
Eddie Chew also joins the
team for the full season in 2005, after getting a few races in last year
as support for the tech staff. The Carthage, IN resident is part of a
successful racing family from east central Indiana. The Chew family ran a
late model into the mid 80’s, with brother Jeff behind the wheel. Eddie is
still actively involved in racing, and notes as his most memorable
moments, his role as winning crew chief for two prestigious Halloween 200
Super Stock victories…one in the Inaugural Race with his brother Jeff
driving, and again in 2003 with Johnny Magee behind the wheel.
For Chew, becoming a part of
the CRA Tech Staff is a natural fit. "I’ve followed the CRA Super Series
from the day it was born in our own back yard at Anderson Speedway," he
noted. "I don’t think anyone could have imagined it would turn out to be
the great series it has, so it has truly been fun to watch grow. Last year
I got my first taste of the behind the scene work with the tech crew at a
few races. Darrel (Teal) and the rest of the Series officials have really
treated me well, so I’m really looking forward to being a full-fledged
member of the staff this year."
Eddie’s brother Jeff is
expected to lend occasional support to the tech staff during the year, as
well as past officials Greg Wood, Blair Huff and Tim Teal. The new
officials will see their first action of the year at either the Open
Practice at Anderson Speedway on March 26th or at the series
opener at Anderson Speedway on Saturday, April 16.
