2005 CRA Super Series Rookie Of The Year Honors
Salem, IN (March 18,
2005) – Rick Russell Racing has announced that it will compete full
time with driver Jason Setser in the CRA Super Series in 2005. Setser, a
native of Columbus, Indiana, will be competing for the 2005 CRA Super
Series Rookie Of The Year Honors. Setser plans on continuing a tradition
of outstanding Rookie Of The Year Award winners that the CRA Super Series
has produced since the series began in 1997. Past Rookie Award winners
include in 2004 Chris Gabehart, in 2003 Chuck Barnes Jr., in 2002 Andy
Ponstein, in 2001 Joel Kauffman, in 2000 Scott Hantz, in 1999 Peter
Cozzolino and in 1998 Spanks Overbeck.
After an early career that
included driving on dirt tracks in central Indiana in Sprint Cars and Dirt
Late Models, Rick Russell Racing decided to turn to pavement racing to
further Setser’s racing career in 2004. Setser competed full time with the
ASA Late Model Series in 2004, finishing 8th in points with 2
top 5 finishes and 5 top 10 finishes. Setser also made two starts with the
CRA Super Series in 2004. Setser’s first pavement late model race ever was
with the CRA Super Series in the 2004 season opener at Anderson Speedway.
Setser made the race but was knocked out of the event on lap 41 after
being involved in an accident. Setser also entered the CRA Super Series
2004 Season Championship event at Salem Speedway. Setser came from his 23rd
place starting position to finish on the lead lap in 12th
place.
