CRA Super Series Set To Battle
In The 3rd Annual Sizzle Marine Buckeye Bash Presented By
EMH&T At Columbus Motor Speedway
Salem, IN (June 1, 2005) – The
CRA Super Series is set once again to battle in the 3rd
Annual Sizzle Marine Buckeye Bash Presented By EMH&T at Columbus Motor
Speedway, in Columbus,
Ohio, this Saturday night, June 4th.
Each of the last CRA Super Series events with the Buckeye Bash have
been classic battles with the top series talent racing against a star
studded field on the flat 1/3-mile track.
Battle Creek, Michigan’s Fred
Campbell got the win in the inaugural Buckeye Bash. Starting from his
third starting position, Campbell worked his way around Bobby Parsley
and early race leader Andy Ponstein. Ponstein took the lead at the
drop of the green flag and led the first 58 laps holding off very
competitive Bobby Parsley, who tried to pass Ponstein on nearly every
lap. Campbell worked his way around Parsley and beat Ponstein on a
great move on the outside. Campbell led the rest of the way for his
third win of the 2003 season with the CRA Super Series and his 11th
straight Top 5 finish at the time with the CRA Super Series. Campbell
topped a tough field of CRA Super Series regulars plus NASCAR stars
Ken Schrader and Kenny Wallace as well as former ASA Racing Series
Champion Gary St. Amant.
Scott Hantz got a hard earned victory
in last years Buckeye Bash fighting off the persistent challenge of
former ASA Racing Series competitor Robbie Pyle. Pyle, a former
Columbus Motor Speedway Champion who was competing in his first ever
CRA Super Series event, kept the pressure on Hantz all the way until
the checkers. Pyle, competing in an ASA Late Model Series car with a
Chevrolet Crate Engine, had the Angola, Indiana native sideways
several times late in the event, but Hantz managed to make some great
saves to hang on for the win over Pyle.
Former ASA Racing Series Champion and
current Hooters Pro Cup Series driver Gary St.Amant held on for a
third place finish last season in front of his hometown fans. St.Amant
jumped out to an early lead in the event from his outside pole
starting position until Hantz powered by to take the lead on lap 37
bringing Pyle to second with him. NASCAR Nextel Cup driver Ken
Schrader, who was making his second straight appearance in the Buckeye
Bash, had his day come to an abrupt end on lap 97. Schrader has his
right front tire climb the left rear tire of Columbus Motor Speedway
Outlaw Late Model legend Tim Ice while trying to slow for a caution.
Schrader’s car ended up landing on the top left side of Ice’s car
ending the day for both competitors.
This years Sizzle Marine 125
Presented By EMH&T will feature another very talented field of CRA
Super Series regulars against a tough bunch of local and regional
talent. Former ASA Racing Series Champions Mike Eddy and Gary St.
Amant will be joined by fellow ASA competitor and Columbus Motor
Speedway Champion Robbie Pyle. St. Amant and Pyle are both seeking to
get the win for their hometown fans.
Local competitors Donnie Hill, Mike
Rush and John Jenkins will be on hand to battle the CRA Super Series
regulars entered such as last seasons winner Scott Hantz, Eddie Van
Meter, 2003 series Champion Bobby Parsley, 2003 Rookie Of the Year
Chris Gabehart and first time winner at Winchester Speedway on May 22nd,
current rookie points leader and first time winner at Mansfield
Motorsports Speedway on April 30th Boris Jurkovic. Other
top CRA Super Series drivers entered include JR Roahrig, Jeff Lane,
Kenny Tweedy, Jim Crabtree Jr., Rick Turner and Steve Moenck. Three
time Illiana Motor Speedway Champion Mike White has also entered as
well as veteran Cincinnati racer Jeep Pflum.
Pits will open for the 3rd
Annual Sizzle Marine Buckeye Bash Presented By EMH&T at 1pm Ohio time.
Practice will begin at 3:30pm, spectator gates open at 4pm, with
qualifying at 6pm. The race program will begin at 7pm and will include
the Sizzle Marine 125 Presented By EMH&T for the CRA Super Series.
