CRA Super Series Set For Sunday’s Return To Kalamazoo Speedway

Salem, IN (July 29, 2005) – The CRA Super Series Presented By Spray Power is set to return to Kalamazoo Speedway this Sunday for the Bicycle Clay Poker Chips – Menards 125 Presented By Hoosier Racing Tire. The series last competed at the famed Michigan oval in July of 2002. That event was dominated by local talent, which took the top five positions. Fred Campbell won the event, finishing second was Chris Orr, in third was Bob Holley, in fourth was multi-time track champion Andy Bozell and in fifth was Andy’s brother Jeff Bozell.

Of the top five finishers in 2002, only Martin, Michigan’s Chris Orr is entered for Sunday’s event. Orr led the first 63 laps of the 2002 event before being passed by Campbell on lap 64. Orr was able to stay in second and challenge Campbell through out the remaining laps, but could never pass the cagey veteran racer, who has since been to victory lane several times with the series. Orr will once again be piloting a Hendricks County Motorsports machine owned by Indianapolis, Indiana businessman Jim Winters. Orr will be a teammate to Winter’s full-time series entry Chris Gabehart, who is currently fifth in CRA Super Series points.

The state of Michigan will be represented by several top drivers for Sunday’s event including Brian Campbell, son of Fred Campbell, who will serve as Brian’s Crew Chief in Sunday’s event. Campbell will be racing a car he raced last season for PBM Racing. PBM Racing sold the car through an auction during the off-season to A-1 Auto Parts. Tommy Hernly drove the car once in the April Mansfield event. The car was then put up for sale and was purchased by current owner Boyne Machine Company. Campbell looks to claim his first ever CRA Super Series victory, his best finish with the series to date was at Berlin Raceway in 2004, when he finished second to his dad.

Other Michigan drivers entered include 2002 CRA Super Series Rookie Of The Year Andy Ponstein, who has one victory to date with the series, which came at Anderson Speedway in September of 2003. Lansing’s Tommy Hernly will make his third start of the season with the CRA Super Series coming off a third place finish in the Anderson 400 on July 16th. Mt. Morris’s Johnny Belott will race in Sunday’s event, his last start with the series resulted in his first ever series victory at Toledo Speedway in May. Wyoming’s Zach Dunson will be looking to improve upon his season best 15th place finish in the Anderson 400. Dunson has made just a hand full of starts in 2005 as he looks to run for series Rookie Of Year honors in 2006.

Former Michigan native Steve Dorer, now living in Lakeland, Florida, will make his first ever CRA Super Series start driving his Michigan based FLF Racecars built machine. Fellow Florida native Rich Pratt will make his second series start Sunday, his first was in the Anderson 400 were he was forced to retire early from the event with a broken rear end.

Pit gates open for the CRA Super Series at 10am Michigan time Sunday. Practice will begin at 12:15pm with qualifying at 2:30pm. The race program will begin at 4pm and will include the Bicycle Clay Poker Chips – Menards 125 Presented By Hoosier Racing Tire for the CRA Super Series Presented By Spray Power.
