Spray Power Is Halfway Through A Season Of Parity
Salem, IN (July 10, 2005) –
The CRA Super Series Presented By Spray Power is halfway through the
20 race 2005 season, a season so far of parity. The series has had 10
different winners in victory lane in the nine point events and one
non-point event so far this season. Of those 10 different winners, 5
have been first time winners including leading FLF Racecars /Cometic
Gasket Rookie Of The Year candidate Boris Jurkovic, who claimed the
win in the second race of the season at Mansfield Motorsports
Speedway. Chris Gabehart started a streak of four straight first time
winners with his victory at Winchester Speedway. From there Johnny
Belott got his first series win at Toledo Speedway, Jack Landis got
his at Columbus Motor Speedway and Jeremy Lepak the win in the George
Appleton Memorial non-points event at Grundy County Speedway.
Series veteran racers have also
visited victory in 2005 including 2003 series champion Bobby Parsley
who
claimed a victory in the 2005 season opener at Anderson Speedway.
Other victories have been claimed by 2000 series champion Scott Hantz
at IRP, Fred Campbell driving for veteran series driver Bull Baker at
Berlin Raceway, Eddie Hoffman’s domination at Illiana Motor Speedway
and the most recent winner Jeff Lane on Saturday night July 2nd
at Angola Motor Speedway.
The series driver standings also
reflects a season that has not been dominated by any one driver. After
nine series point’s events the top five drivers are separated by only
18 points. Eddie Van Meter has been the most consistent driver so far
in the 2005 season with the guidance of veteran Crew Chief Bill
Rievley. Van Meter has seen two possible victories slip away in the
first half of the season, the first at Toledo Speedway when rain
shortened the event and gave the victory to Johnny Belott with nine
laps to go and at Berlin Raceway when he ran out of gas while leading
on lap 111 of the 125 for the event.
Scott Hantz is currently in second
only 4 points behind Van Meter in a roller coaster season that saw
him
in victory lane at IRP in May, but suffering DNF’s at Columbus Motor
Speedway and at Illiana Motor Speedway. Chris Gabehart has fought back
from adversity in the first two events of the season to be in third
place in points, eleven behind Van Meter, followed by Bobby Parsley in
fourth seventeen points behind despite DNF’s at Winchester Speedway
and Illiana Motor Speedway.
Eddie Hoffman’s team TK Racing
currently leads the series owner’s points by 56 points, while Hoffman
sets in fifth place 18 behind Van Meter, but he has only competed in 8
point races, one less than everyone else in front of him. Steve Moenck
drove the TK Racing CRA Super Series entry at Columbus Motor Speedway
while Hoffman raced a NASCAR AutoZone Midwest event in Colorado the
same weekend for team owner Tom Kmak. Hoffman will make the rest of
the CRA Super Series events in 2005 and hopes to claim the drivers
championship along with the owners
championship
for TK Racing in there first full season with the series.
Several series stats to date also
reflect parity in the first 10 events including the Bicycle Clay Poker
Chips – Menards Fast Qualifier Award, which has been claimed by 8
different drivers in the 10 events. Chris Gabehart and Bobby Parsley
have each claimed two Fast Qualifier Awards while Eddie Hoffman, Jason
Setser, Ryan Mathews, Jack Landis, Jeff Lane and Steve Moenck have all
claimed one.
Nine different drivers have claimed
the Isky Racing Cams/Lane Automotive Hardcharger Award this season.
Jeff Lane is the only two-time winner while Kenny Tweedy, Joe
O’Connor, JR Roahrig, Zach Dunson, Jim Crabtree Jr., Landon Cassill,
Mike Eddy and Jason Shively have one a piece.
