CRA Super
Series Officials Release 19-Event 2005 Schedule
Salem, IN (January 17,
2005) Officials of the CRA Super Series released their tentative
schedule for the upcoming 2005 season during their annual awards banquet
held this past weekend in Indianapolis. The schedule consists of nineteen
total events, eighteen regular CRA Super Series points events, and the
All American 300 non-points event sanctioned with the OReilly Southern
All Star Racing Series.
On April 16th the
CRA Super Series will open its season, as it has for the last 8 years, at
Anderson Speedway. That historic quarter mile Speedplant was the
birthplace of the series in 1997. From there the series will travel to the
legendary high banks of Winchester Speedway on Sunday, April 24th,
were the series will be part of that tracks first event of its 2005
Re-grand Opening Season. The series will then travel to beautiful
Mansfield Motorsports Speedway on Saturday April 30th for the
first of two series events at that great facility in 2005.
The May 14-15th event at
Indianapolis Raceway Park is next up, the CRA Super Series will team up
again with the USAR Hooters Pro Cup Northern Series for a short track race
fans dream weekend. Not often do race fans get to see as many short track
stars in one place as they will when the two series come together for a
great event in the Motorsports Capitol of the World. From there the series
will return to Toledo Speedway on Memorial Day weekend for a twin 100 lap
feature events in conjunction with the Main Event Outlaw Late Model Series
on Sunday, May29th.
The series stays in Ohio for
the 2nd Annual Buckeye Bash at Columbus Motor Speedway on
Saturday, June 4th. The series then travels to Michigan for the
first of two shows at Berlin Raceway on Saturday, June 18th.
The series will then visits Schererville, Indiana for the Elmer Musgrave
Memorial at Illiana Motor Speedway on Saturday, June 25th. The
next stop for the series will be the traditional Firecracker 125 on
Saturday, July 2nd at the very racy Angola Motor Speedway.
Owner Dick Poe closed Angola Motor Speedway for the 2005 season while
doing major renovations to that facility including new aluminum bleachers,
a new control tower with suites, and a new concession and restroom
facilities.
Next up will be the Crown
Jewel of the 2005 points race schedule on July 15th-16th,
when Anderson Speedway plays host to the 38th Annual Anderson 400. The CRA
Super Series has sanctioned that event the past five years, and during
that time the fans have been treated to some of the best races in the
history of the storied event including a classic duel between Junior
Hanley and Scott Hantz last season. Hanley got to add his name to the list
of legendary winners of that prestigious event.
On Sunday, July 31st the
series will return to Kalamazoo Speedway for the first time since 2002.
This will be the first season ever that the series has raced at two
different tracks in Michigan. On Saturday, August 13th the
series will race at Anderson Speedway for the final time in 2005.
On August 20th the series
will be make its second visit of the season to Berlin Raceway. The series
will triple its events run in the state of Michigan in 2005. On Monday,
September 5th the series will be part of the return of a
classic event at Winchester Speedway, the historic World Stock Car
Festival returns to the high banks of Winchester Speedway on Labor Day
Weekend.
The series will then make
its second visit of the 2005 season to Mansfield Motorsports Speedway on
Sunday, September 11th for a second show at that fabulous
facility. On September 24th-25th, Rockford Speedway will host
the 40th Annual National Short Track Championships, which features the
third visit by
the CRA Super Series to that
historic 1/4-mile track. That weekend will be chocked full of great
racing, fun and camping and annually features the top talent from
Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana and Michigan. One week later, on October 1st,
the CRA Super Series will run a 150 lap event as part of the 2005 World
Cup 300 at I-70 Speedway. This will be a series points race in 2005 and
will feature a larger than normal purse along with travel money and
bonuses for regular series contenders.
The season closes on October
22nd 23rd, on the challenging high banks of Salem
Speedway. The series championship will be decided at the Salem event,
local fans saw home track racer Chuck Barnes Jr. claim his 2005 CRA Super
Series Championship at Salem Speedway this past season.
The season ending event will
be the All American 300 at the Music City MotorPlex in Nashville,
Tennessee. Last year over 60 teams showed up to try and win this
prestigious all star event. The race was hailed by many as the best
short-track race they had seen in a long time! The 2005 addition will be
even bigger and better!
