CRA Super Series to Headline
World Cup 300 Weekend
$5000 to Win / 150 Lap Race
Will Feature the Top Late Model Stars from CRA and Rest of Country
Salem, IN (January 19,
2005) – Officials from I-70 Speedway and the Champion Racing
Association (CRA) Super Series announced today that the Midwestern based
Super Late Model Series will headline the activities surrounding the
traditional World Cup 300 weekend, Saturday October 1. The CRA Super
Series Late Models (formerly known as the Sunoco Super Series) will run
150 laps of the scheduled 300, for $5000 to win and $500 to start. In
addition to the great purse, additional bonuses will be offered to teams
outside of the CRA Super Series. Officials also agreed that this would be
a four tire race only and a one day show.
"The CRA guys put on a heck
of a show last year," commented I-70 Promoter Brad McDonald. "We had so
many great comments about the racers, the way the race was run and the
great finish…we had to have them back" Last year Larry Raines beat Chris
Gabehart to the checkered flag by only a few feet after a grueling 300
laps."
"We are going through a
rebuilding process for the World Cup Weekend," McDonald went on to say,
"so it will look a little different, with different divisions making up
the 300 laps, but the fans will be keying on those great Super Late Models
for 150 laps and $5000 to win. We are already getting calls from teams
with ASA, MARS, USRA and others about this event, plus teams in Wisconsin
and Illinois that couldn’t make it because of last year’s date."
Track officials moved the
event to the week before NASCAR Nextel Cup weekend in Kansas City, which
also kept them off the traditional Oktoberfest Weekend that many northern
teams participate in.
For the CRA Series, it was
an easy decision. "There is a great group of people there at I-70, and the
teams that went last year really enjoyed it," commented CRA founder R. J.
Scott. "With the racing that we already do at Winchester and Salem
Speedway’s, an I-70 fits right in. This will also be a full points earning
race, where last year’s was a non-points event. We’ve already talked to
teams from other series that are planning to come, not to mention the
great local drivers that will make up a stellar field with our teams. It
should be a great show that everyone will want to see."
Track officials plan to
announce soon the remaining divisions and activities surrounding the World
Cup 300 Weekend. For more information on I-70 Speedway visit
