CRA Super Series To Return To Columbus Motor
Speedway For The 3rd Annual Buckeye Bash
Salem, IN (January 10,
2005)
CRA Super Series officials have announced that the series will
return to Columbus Motor Speedway, located in Columbus, Ohio, for the 3rd
Annual Buckeye Bash. The event is being moved from its daytime September
date the last two years, back to a night race on Saturday, June 4th.
The Buckeye Bash will be ran under the lights for the first time ever at
Columbus Motor Speedway, but it will not be the first time under the
lights for the CRA Super Series at Columbus Motor Speedway. The series
first ever event at Columbus Motor Speedway was ran under the lights on
Saturday, September 21, 2002. On that night Junior Hanley put on a classic
battle with 16 year old Joel Kauffman that wasnt decided until the last
lap with Hanley getting the victory. Kauffman finished 2nd and
went on to capture the 2002 series championship.
" We are really excited to
return to Columbus Motor Speedway for the 3rd Annual Buckeye
Bash," remarked R.J. Scott, managing partner with the CRA Super Series.
"We are really looking forward to racing under the lights again at
Columbus, the track seems to have a little better grip at night, which
should mean better racing, even though last years event was exciting all
the way to the finish!"
Former ASA Racing Series
Champion and current Hooters Pro Cup Series driver Gary St.Amant, a
Columbus, Ohio native, jumped out to an early lead in the Federated Auto
Parts 150 last season from his outside pole starting position. St.Amant
held the lead until Scott Hantz powered by on lap 37 bringing Robbie Pyle
with him. Hantzs victory that night was hard earned, as he had to fight
off the persistent challenge of ASA Racing Series competitor Robbie Pyle
over the last half of the race. Pyle, a former Columbus Motor Speedway
competitor competing in his first ever CRA Super Series event, kept the
pressure on Hantz all the way until the checkers. Pyle had Hantz sideways
several times late in the event, but Hantz managed to make some great
saves to hang on for the win over Pyle. St.Amant held on to finish third,
with Steve Moenck in fourth and Eddie Van Meter in fifth.
