Chris
Gabehart Gets First Late Model Victory At Salem Speedway
Salem, IN (September 4,
2004) -
Sunoco Super Series current rookie points leader Chris Gabehart got his first Late Model victory on Saturday night racing in
the Kentucky Clutch and Performance Late Models 50 lap feature on the
High Banks of Salem Speedway. Gabehart took advantage of his outside
pole starting position to lead every lap of the event. Gabehart had to
fight off Salem Speedway veteran racer Pete Mayden to get the victory,
Mayden pressured Gabehart hard over the last ten laps, but Gabehart was
up for the challenge taking the victory by two car lengths.
Sunoco Super Series points
leader Chuck Barnes Jr. was the Late Model Fast Qualifier at Salem
Speedway Saturday night, but had his night end early while running third
in the feature when debris tore a whole in his radiator.
Series veteran Rick Turner,
currently 8th in Sunoco Super Series points, also ventured down to Salem
Speedway Saturday to get some laps on the challenging 1/2 mile track
prior to the series season championship event there on October 24th.
Turner qualified 4th and finished 4th in the feature.
