Sunoco Super Series Drivers to Visit Children of Riley
Hospital Prior to I.R.P Event
Wayne and Nancy Moeckel of
Victory Chapel Ministries Spearheading Visitation Effort
Indianapolis, IN (May 12,
2004) -
While many drivers will still be preparing
for the exciting
racing action this weekend at Indianapolis Raceway Park, a few will be
taking a break Friday afternoon to visit some special children at Riley
Hospital in Indianapolis. Sunoco Super Series veterans Jeff Lane and Eddie
Van Meter will meet with the children, sign autographs, and pass out some
fun racing memorabilia during their afternoon visit.
The organizers of the visit
are Wayne and Nancy Moeckel of Victory Chapel Ministries. The couple
travels with the Sunoco Super Series, providing spiritual leadership and
friendship to the drivers, officials and fans of the Series.
The Moeckel’s have been part
of similar hospital visits in the past and wanted to carry on that
tradition in Indianapolis. According to Wayne Moeckel, "I’ve had the
opportunity to see a kid’s face light up when a race car driver walks
through the door, and once you’ve seen that…we’ll, you can understand why
we would want to do it again. The interaction with the drivers and the
kids is very special and it really gives the kids a chance to think about
something other than why they are in there."
For the drivers, it was an
easy invitation to say yes to. "I’m really looking forward to it," noted
Lane earlier in the week. "I hope we can share some smiles with the kids,
talk about racing, and brighten up their days. We are blessed to do the
things we get to do, so if sharing it with someone who is ill might make
them feel a little better, I’m pleased to be part of that." Lane and Van
Meter will be racing in the area on Sunday afternoon at Indianapolis
Raceway Park, as part of the double header action featuring the USAR
Hooters Pro-Cup Series and the CRA / Sunoco Super Series.
