Sunoco Super Series/Hooters Officials Outline Plans for
Increased Purse at I.R.P.
$2.50 of Every Ticket Purchased
over 2500 Will Go Towards Increasing the Sunoco Super Series Purse
Salem, Indiana (March 24, 2004)
-
In an effort to offset the two-day costs for Sunoco Super Series teams at
Indianapolis Raceway Park (I.R.P.) on May 15-16, officials from USAR
Hooters Pro-Cup and the Sunoco Super Series have outlined a plan to assist
everyone involved. The USAR officials are the promoters of the event, and
are working closely with the Indiana based late model series officials to
help ensure a successful event for everyone involved.
According to Sunoco Super Series
director Glenn Luckett, "Leasing a facility like I.R.P., and promoting a
race in the Indianapolis market is not cheap. There is a lot of financial
risk associated with promoting an event with purses from two high-profile
groups. What drives all of this, though, is that the racers just love to
race there. The Hooters/USAR people have been great to work with and
helped put together a plan that can be beneficial to the promoter, the
Series involved, and the racers."
With this plan, the Series has
guaranteed a minimum $20,000 purse, but the opportunity for a much larger
purse is very possible. $2.50 of every ticket purchased over 2,500 will go
towards increasing the purse for the Sunoco Super Series teams. The
facility holds in excess of 20,000 people, but if only 7,500 tickets are
purchased, that will result in an extra $12,500 being added to the purse,
all of which will go to the teams.
"This is a tremendous opportunity for
our competitors," noted Sunoco Super Series managing partner R. J. Scott.
"It’s a great move for everyone involved. Now all the parties have a
vested interest in the success of the show. Our standard purse is
guaranteed, but there could be a lot more added to it. With possible
additions, it could pay $850 to start instead of $450. It’s up to the
teams now. Every family member and friend will be getting calls to come to
Indianapolis on May 16th."
The May 16th event will
mark the first time the Sunoco Super Series and Hooter Pro-Cup cars will
be part of the same event. Short track fans will get to see great drivers
from both series, with the possibility of a few drivers competing in both
events. Teams will practice and qualify on Saturday, May 15th.
On Sunday afternoon, fans will get the opportunity to see 250 laps of
exciting Hooters Pro-Cup action followed by 100 laps of action for the
Sunoco Super Series teams. During the course of one day, fans are expected
to see some of the greatest talent in short track racing, including: Gary
St. Amant, Junior Hanley, Joel Kauffman, Scott Hantz, Brian Ross, Fred
Campbell, Mardy Lindley, Bobby Parsley, Glenn Gault, Jeff Agnew and many,
many others.
