2004 Tire Purchasing Procedures and Regulations
(Updated 3-18-04)
Teams must race on Sunoco Super
Series approved tires only. Teams may call Sibila Race Engineering at
866-472-2464 for any information on the Sunoco Super Series approved
Goodyear Racing Tires and to order practice tires if needed. Tires must be
paid for on race day by cash or credit card, checks will only be accepted
it the team has a credit card on file with Sibila Race Engineering prior
to purchasing tires. All teams must follow the procedures listed below.
The purchasing of series specified
tires will start on the day of every event ten minutes after the pit gates
are officially opened. Teams will be allowed in the series tire truck by
owner’s points, the highest team in the current owners points ten minutes
after the pit gates have opened will go first, after that it will go by
the next highest in line until all teams with owners points have gotten
their tires.
Teams with no owner’s points will
purchase tires in the order that the series tire officials place them in,
when they report to the series tire officials.
No team is allowed to purchase
additional sets of tires until every team has had the opportunity to
purchase one set, unless they have called in an advance order with Sibila
Race Engineering. Additional sets of tires will be purchased also by
owner’s points but in reverse order. Purchased qualifying tires will be
impounded at the tire purchasing area until all teams have purchased
qualifying tires. Tires will be released prior to the end of practice, but
more typically prior to the start of practice. Unless otherwise announced,
qualifying tires can be scuffed during practice. All tires marked for that
day’s events must remain in the teams pit area in full view of series
officials and may never go inside a team’s trailer.
To be eligible for a top fifteen
qualifying position, teams must purchase tires at the track the day of the
race. Series officials must mark these tires prior to them leaving the
tire mounting area. It is the responsibility of the teams to get their
tires properly marked. Tires will be checked for that events mark prior to
qualifying and prior to the start of the feature. Any car qualifying in
the top fifteen with tires not properly marked for that event cannot start
the feature better than sixteenth.
Cars must start the feature on the
same tires on which they qualified. Cars running the last chance race or
qualifying races may change tires prior to that race, but must return to
the qualifying tires for the feature. Cars which run the last chance race
on tires on which they qualified, will be allowed to use additional right
side tires purchased that day for the feature. During a regular feature
event tires may not be changed unless there is a legitimate flat tire,
verified by an official prior to taking the tire off the car. Changes must
be approved by a series official in advance.
Use of tire softening or altering
agents will not be permitted. Use of such substances will result in
immediate disqualification with loss of points. Series officials will
routinely inspect tires after qualifying and after selected features.
Series officials also reserve the right to confiscate any tire at any time
for testing. If testing is done and tire has been chemically altered, team
will loose all event points and monies and face possible suspension of
racing penalties with the Sunoco Super Series.
