Salem, IN (February 20, 2004) – After a three-year hiatus, the Sunoco Super Series will make a return visit to the historical Illiana Motor Speedway, located in Schererville, Indiana, for the Elmer Musgrave Memorial 100 on Saturday, June 26^th. The 100-lap event will honor legendary Mid-west racer Elmer Musgrave, the father of current NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series racer Ted Musgrave, who will be on hand for the event to talk with fans, sign autographs and present the winners trophy for the Elmer Musgrave Memorial 100.

Ted Musgrave’s racing career started when he worked on his dad’s racing crew. Ted went on to compete on short tracks through out Illinois and Wisconsin. From there Ted moved up to the ARTGO Series, then made a name for himself in the ASA Racing Series. Ted has been racing in NASCAR since 1990 when he moved up from ASA to take the NASCAR Nextel Cup ride formally driven by open wheel racing veteran Rich Vogler, after Vogler was killed in a tragic racing accident at Salem Speedway. Ted raced in NASCAR Nextel Cup through the 2000 season, when he decided that the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series would better soot him. Ted had instant success in the trucks driving for the Ultra Motorsports Team owned by Jim Smith, picking up 7 wins in his first season. Ted has a total of 13 wins in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, and was competing for the series point’s championship in the season finally in 2003 when a black flag for attempting to pass to early on a restart cost him the championship at the end of the race.

The Sunoco Super Series last competed at Illiana Motor Speedway on July 14, 2001 in the Illiana 100 in one of the series best ever events. That event saw five different lead changes among six drivers. Brent Downey took the early lead from his pole starting position. Downey lead for 8 laps before being passed by Ron Dantzer who got to lead 1 lap before being passed by Eddie Van Meter. Van Meter lead for 3 laps before local Illinois racer Biff George, the events fast qualifier, took the lead from his 7^th place inverted starting position. George led until lap 29 when former Sunoco Super Series Champion Brian Ross took over the lead. Ross fought a hard side-by-side battle with Scott Hantz for several laps before Hantz took the lead for good on lap 66. Hantz took the win with Ross finishing second, Junior Hanley was third, Bobby Murany fourth and Peter Cozzolino fifth.

Other notable racers in that event include Erik Darnell the 2003 Wisconsin Challenge Champion, Todd Braun current ARCA RE/Max Series and NASCAR Busch Series Team Owner. Also former ARCA Re/Max Series competitor and current NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Rookie Shelby Howard and former ARCA Re/Max Series Rookie Of The Year and NASCAR Busch Series driver Chad Blount. Other former Sunoco Super Series Champions competing in that event besides Brian Ross included 2003 Champion Bobby Parsley, 2002 Champion Joel Kauffman, and 1997 Champion Kenny Tweedy.
