Salem, IN (August 5, 2004) – Louisville, Kentucky’s Chuck Barnes Jr. regained the Sunoco Super Series points lead with a great weekend of racing as the series made a rare two stop weekend in Ohio this past Saturday and Sunday. Barnes, who had lost his early season points lead to Junior Hanley two event ago at the NationsRent 400, got back on track Saturday at Shadybowl Speedway by qualifying second and then getting his first Sunoco Super Series event win over Hanley. Jeff lane finished third Saturday giving the series top three point leaders a sweep of the top three finishing positions.

Sunday saw the Sunoco Super Series traveling north to Toledo Speedway for a make-up event from the rainout on May 30^th of the Sunoco 100. Hanley still lead both Barnes and Lane but things began to change quickly and it started in qualifying. Barnes qualified 4^th getting five valuable points while Lane qualified 7^th and Hanley 9^th received no points for qualifying. Barnes had the best seat in the house watching one of the series classic battles as Scott Hantz and Jeff Lane swapped the lead several times before Hantz’s run up front ended with overheating problems. Lane went on to get the victory in the Sunoco 100 with Barnes cruising home in 2^nd. The main points story of the day was the bad run for former points leader Junior Hanley who finished the race in 16^th position, two laps down to the leaders.

With six Sunoco Super Series points events left, the series is set to have one of it’s greatest points battles ever. Barnes will take an 18-point lead into the next series point’s event on August 14^th at Indianapolis Raceway Park. Jeff Lane has now moved to second, two points ahead of Junior Hanley.

"It’s great to be back in the points lead and getting our first series win this past weekend," remarked Barnes. "With six points races remaining, there is still a long way to go. Junior told me he’s not worried about Championships, he just wants to win races, but I know Jeff wants to win it bad, and is going to give us a tough run. The four straight events in September could make or break any of us in the top three."

Scott Hantz has been plagued with bad luck this season, but is still in contention for the point’s title with six races to go, he is currently in 4^th position 63 points behind Barnes. Sunoco Super Series Rookie contender Chris Gabehart’s three straight strong finishes of 2^nd, 10^th and 4^th have earned him three straight Backstretch Performance/Blake Carburetion/Reed Cams Rookie Of the Race Awards and moved him into 5^th place in points, 99 points behind Barnes. Bobby Parsley, last year’s series Champion, is currently in 6^th, 3 points behind Gabehart. Terry Fisher Jr. is currently 7^th, Rick Turner has moved up to 8^th with two top ten finishes over the weekend. Eddie Van Meter holds down 9^th position followed by another series rookie Steve Moenck in 10^th.
