Chuck Barnes
Jr. Hopes To Get First Sunoco Super Series Victory In 2004
Salem, IN (April 13, 2004) –
21
year old Chuck Barnes Jr. achieved his goal with the Sunoco Super Series
in 2003 by winning the series Rookie Of The Year Award
during
a season that included two top five finishes with a third at Mt. Lawn
Speedway and a fifth at Toledo Speedway and five top ten finishes with an
eighth place finish in overall final Sunoco Super Series Championship
points. With the 2004 Sunoco Super Series season opener this Saturday
night at Anderson Speedway, located in Anderson, Indiana, the Louisville,
Kentucky native looks toward new goals for the 2004 Sunoco Super Series
season.
"Last season was a good learning
experience for me and my race team," explained Barnes Jr. "It was great
for me to get the Sunoco Super Series Rookie Of the Year Award, but it was
a very close fight to get that award because of some bad luck and some
inconsistencies on our part. With what we learned last year and the
upgrade we made in our equipment I want to get to victory lane next and
maybe, if we can have some good luck this year, we can improve in series
points and possibly be in contention to win the series championship."
Barnes Jr. has proven he can win races in
a late model, after winning the Salem Speedway season opener on April 4th,
Barnes Jr. now has six victories in a late model on that famous half mile
high-banked racetrack. Barnes has lead 64 laps in his Sunoco Super Series
career and has recorded one Fast Qualifier Award, which he got at the Car
Brite 200 at Winchester Speedway in 2002.
"Obviously
with my past experience I am comfortable on the banked half-mile tracks
which has shown in our good runs at Winchester Speedway and Toledo
Speedway. I need to get better at Anderson Speedway, we have had some good
runs there also, but we need to learn to qualify a little closer to the
front so I can race myself into a position to get a win. I need to get a
lot better on the flat tracks, we have really struggled at times at
Indianapolis Raceway Park, with two races there this season, I need to
improve there right off the bat. I think it’s great that the Sunoco Super
Series is returning to Salem Speedway this year, that track has pretty
much been my home track since I started racing, hopefully I can use my
experience there to have a great run when the Sunoco Super Series races
there in October."
Barnes Jr. is still looking for a Primary
Sponsor to help with his racing cost with the Sunoco Super Series in 2004,
