Salem, IN (October 10, 2003) – With the checkered flag of the Sunoco Super Series Car Brite 400 at Winchester Speedway last Sunday, Mt. Morris, Michigan’s Bobby Murany decidedly won the 2003 Lefthander Challenge. The Lefthander Challenge, sponsored by Lefthander Chassis, awards a Bare Offset Lefthander Chassis to the Sunoco Super Series driver who is in the top fifteen in final season points that improved the most positions in the series scheduled sixteen points events during the 2003 season.

Murany improved 101 positions in 2003, as a result Murany also won the Lane Automotive/ISKY Racing Cams Hardcharger Award at four Sunoco Super Series events in 2003. Murany has developed a reputation as a “late starter” for his poor qualifying attempts and then charging through the field to get a good finish. Murany has been a part-time competitor with the Sunoco Super Series since 2001driving for owner Bryan Robertson. Murany finished the 2003 season in 13^th place in Sunoco Super Series Owners Points, his first time ever in the top fifteen. 

Finishing in second in the Lefthander Challenge was series veteran Todd Oliver. The Sunoco sponsored team improved 41 positions during the 2003 season. Another series veteran Eddie Van Meter finished in third improving 36 positions. In fourth place was series rookie competitor Terry Fisher Jr. with 23 improved positions. Fisher Jr. finished third in the 2003 Hubler Automotive/Blake Carburetion Rookie Of The Year Standings, but gained more positions during the season than both rookie drivers that were ahead of him in rookie points. Rounding out the top five in the Lefthander Challenge was 2003 Sunoco Super Series Champion Bobby Parsley with 22 improved positions.

This was the sixth consecutive year that Lefthander Chassis has sponsored the Lefthander Challenge with the Sunoco Super Series, which has produced a great group of former winners. Prior winners of the Lefthander Challenge include two-time Sunoco Super Series Champion Brian Ross, a two-time award winner also in 1998 and 1999. 2000 Series Champion and 2000 Rookie Of The Year Scott Hantz in 2000. Jim Crabtree Jr. won the award winner in 2001. Tim Phillips won the award last season.
