Fred Campbell Makes
A Clean Sweep Of Sunoco 100 at Toledo Speedway
Toledo, OH (July 21, 2003)
– Battle Creek, Michigan’s Fred Campbell made a clean sweep of all his
Sunoco Super Series competitors in Sunday nights Sunoco 100 at Toledo
Speedway. Campbell was the Yockey Motorsports Marketing Fast Qualifier,
breaking the Sunoco Super Series qualifying record in the process. Then
starting from his 5th starting position, worked his way to the
front to get the win in the Sunoco 100, which earned him the first Spray
Power Clean Sweep Award of the season, which paid Campbell a $1,200 bonus
that a accrued from the first series race of the season, in addition to
his earnings for being the events fast qualifier and winner.
“This win tonight makes up for
one we gave away this past Wednesday,” remarked Campbell in victory lane.
“Its great to win here at Toledo Speedway, I really like this race track.
We new we had a fast car as soon as we unloaded. We were worried it would
rain out, and we wouldn’t get the chance to race this great car. We don’t
run with the Sunoco Super Series a lot, but it’s a great series, with a
bunch of good racers! Wins aren’t easy to get in this series, so it means
a lot when you can get one!”
The afternoon saw several rain
showers and storms barely miss the racetrack, with only a few sprinkles
during the late afternoon just before qualifying. The fans that braved the
areas rough weather to get to the racetrack were treated to some great
racing, most of which took place in the first 56 laps of the Sunoco 100,
which were run without a caution.
Bobby Parsley continued his
great run in 2003 with a second place finish, which combined with Junior
Hanley’s 13th place finish, will give Parsley the series points
lead heading to Shady Bowl Speedway. Dave Kuhlman, making his second start
of the season with the Sunoco Super Series, got 3rd, which matched his
finish at Berlin Raceway in June. Andy Ponstein got a 4th place
finish, his second top five finish of the season. Chuck Barnes Jr. worked
his way up from his 15th place starting position to finish 5th.
Barnes’s 5th place finish earned him the Hubler Automotive
Group / Blake Carburetion Rookie Of The Race Award.
Don Finkbeiner, Crew Chief for
Fred Campbell, was the Gladiator GarageWorks Crew Chief Of The Race. Terry
Fisher Sr. was the Lane Automotive / ISKY Racing Cams Hardcharger Award
winner. Fisher finished 14th from his 27th place
starting position. Barnes and Dave Jackson earned Goodyear Performance
Awards. Fred Campbell got the Cometic Gasket Halfway Bonus. Bobby Parsley
received the Sweet Manufacturing Sweet Move Of The Race Award for some
spectacular passes on the outside. Terry Fisher Jr. received the EMF Corp
Hard Luck Award.
The next Sunoco Super Series
event will be the Stapleton Automotive 150 Presented By Lucas Oil Products
on Saturday, July 26th at Shady Bowl Speedway.
