DeGraff, ON (July 27, 2003) – Knightstown,
Indiana’s Jeff Lane may be ready to make DeGraff, Ohio his second home
after the cheers from the crowd after his dominating Sunoco Super Series
victory in the Stapleton Automotive 150 Presented By Lucas Oil Products at
Shady Bowl Speedway Saturday night. Lane took the lead from his pole
starting position and never looked back to take the victory, his second
Sunoco Super Series victory of the season.
“It’s really great to win here at Shady Bowl Speedway
again,” commented Lane in victory lane. “I really like this track and it
seems to like me. The fans here are great, they make me feel like I’m
winning at home. We got a win here last year, and I knew we could do it
again if we could start up front and we did. There were a lot of restarts
but I was able to get a good jump and keep the lead every time!”
Lane got to start on the pole thanks to the
four-inverted start draw by Yockey Motorsports Marketing Fast Qualifier
Rick Turner, who set a new track record for the Sunoco Super Series at
Shady Bowl Speedway in his qualifying run. Lane got the jump on the start
from outside front row starter JR Roahrig. Roahrig was able to keep up
with Lane through out the event, but could never mount a serious challenge
to make a pass. The race was slowed by numerous cautions, on the restarts
from those cautions Roahrig could close right on the rear of Lanes car,
but after a couple of laps Lane would begin to pull away from Roahrig each
time. Roahrig would hang on to finish second in the event.
Junior Hanley and Kenny Tweedy battled through out
the event for the third and fourth positions. Hanley was able to take
third place with Tweedy getting fourth. Hanley also takes over the series
point lead, after former point leader Bobby Parsley, who was running
fourth at the time, had his transmission stick in third gear on a restart
on lap 31, the rest of the field stacked up behind Parsley with several
cars receiving damaged in the aftermath including Bull Baker, which had
Eddie Van Meter’s car ride over the left side of the car causing extensive
damaged that ended Baker’s night. Van Meter was able to continue and
finished in the fifth position. Parsley’s night ended on lap 38.
Leading rookie candidate Chuck Barnes Jr. also had
extensive damage in the lap 31 incident, Barnes was able to return after
repairs to only have his night end early after suffering motor problems.
Scott Hantz also had to go to the pits for several laps after the lap 31
incident, Hantz broke a break caliper, but was able to make repairs and
return to the race to finish fifteenth 17 laps down to the leaders.
Terry Fisher Jr., was the Hubler Automotive Group /
Blake Carburetion Rookie Of The Race Award winner. Fisher’s dad, Terry
Fisher Sr., let Fisher Jr. use his car for the night’s events after Fisher Jr.’s car had motor problems during practice. Hayden Butler, Crew Chief
for Jeff Lane, was the Gladiator GarageWorks Crew Chief Of The Race. For
the fourth time this season, Bobby Murany was the Lane Automotive / ISKY
Racing Cams Hardcharger Of The Race Award winner. Murany finished sixth
after starting seventeenth. Kenny Tweedy was the Sweet Manufacturing
“Sweet” Move Of The Race Award winner. Tweedy and Murany claimed Goodyear
Performance Awards. Bull Baker received the EMF Corp Hard Luck Award.
The next Sunoco Super Series event will be the 6th
Annual International Gold Cup 100 at Baer Field Speedway on Thursday,
August 7th.
Rick
Turner set a new track record tonight, running both laps under the old
record. Tuner then drew a 4 to start on the outside of the second
row putting Jeff Lane on the pole to start the second straight race.
Scott
Hantz had a mechanical problem with his car and is now using his back up
car, leaving Brian Fries without a ride for this event. Terry
Fisher, Jr's car also had a mechanical problem during practice and he is
driving his father's 06 car with the number changed to 81. This of
course left Terry Fisher Sr. without a ride this event.
