To Be Part Of “Super” Memorial Day Weekend Event At Toledo Speedway In
2004
Salem, IN (December 16, 2003) –
Toledo Speedway and Sunoco Super
Series officials have announced that the
Sunoco Super Series will be a
part of a big “Super” Memorial Day Weekend event at the famed Toledo
Speedway in 2004. The event is set to take place on the ˝ mile banked oval
on Sunday, May 30th. The Sunoco Super Series will have a
100-lap event and will be companioned with a 100-lap Outlaw Super Late
Model event. The rain date for the event will be on Monday, May 31st.
“We are very excited
about having the Sunoco Super Series back at Toledo Speedway,” remarked
Scott Schultz of Toledo Speedway. “We are returning to a format of a very
successful show we did on Memorial Day Weekend in 2002. Both Template and
Outlaw Late Model fans will get the opportunity to see the best drivers of
each type of late model racing compete on the same night. This event will
have several drivers that will compete in both divisions. Needless to say,
it will be a very exciting night of racing at Toledo Speedway!”
The Sunoco Super Series
has had five events at Toledo Speedway since August 4th, 2000
when Harold Fair Jr. won his first ever Sunoco Super Series event.
Canadian racing legend Junior Hanley has had the most success at Toledo
Speedway with the Sunoco Super Series, capturing one win in 2001 and one
win in 2002. Joel Kauffman won his first ever Sunoco Super Series event in
May of 2002 at Toledo Speedway on his way to winning the 2002 Sunoco Super
Series Championship. Veteran Michigan driver Fred Campbell cruised to
victory at the Sunoco Super Series event at Toledo Speedway in 2003,
taking over the lead from Jeff Lane on lap 24 to get the win, which also
included a $1,800 bonus for getting the Spray Power Clean Sweep Award
since he was also the event fast qualifier.
Toledo Speedway’s resurgence as one of
the premier short tracks in the Midwest continues under the guidance of
ARCA President Ron Drager and Detroit-area businessman Roy Mott who
purchased the track in January of 1999. Toledo Speedway has had a numerous
improvements with the new ownership including a new pit road inside the
track and a large paved back pit area with a very racer friendly tech
building, restrooms and concession area. The track also features a new
race control tower and suites above the grandstands, as well as a new back
pit area grandstand.
