World Cup 300 Slated For
“Super Tour” Schedule
I-70 Speedway’s Marquee Event to be Part of the
recently announced SSS/SAS “Super Tour”
Odessa,
MO (December 1, 2003) –
Officials from the CRA/ Sunoco Super Series - O’Reilly Southern All Stars
“Super Tour” recently announced an important event on the 2004 late model
schedule. I-70 Speedway’s marquee event, The World Cup 300, will be
part of the Super Tour in 2004. The event is scheduled for Saturday
night, October 9. This is also the weekend of the Winston Cup event
at Kansas Speedway, only 45 minutes away. Race fans will be able to
catch the Busch race Saturday during the day, the World Cup 300 at night
at I-70 Speedway, and return to Kansas Speedway the next day for the
Winston Cup race. Officials expect a large number of campers at the
short track for this exciting weekend.
Through the years, the World Cup 300 was heralded as
one of the premier late model races in the country. Some of the top names
in motorsports have been a part of the event, including NASCAR Stars Rusty
Wallace and Mark Martin, ASA Stars Dick Trickle, Mike Eddy and 2003
Champion Kevin Cywinski, plus local heroes John O’Neil, 2003 Track
Champion Jeff Klem and the 2003 World Cup winner Jenny White.
Although the race has gone through different formats
and organizers, the Speedway’ new General Manager Larry Kemp saw
immediately that the “Super Tour” and the World Cup 300 would be a perfect
match. “I was at the Patriot 200 in Nashville at the end of the year, and
enjoyed that great collection of drivers from the north and the south.
The two groups working together put on a great show, and I felt then that
the “Super Tour” would be key in returning the World Cup 300 to level of
prestige it deserves. Additionally, we have invited teams form the ROMCO
Series in Texas. It will be a genuine North/South Shoot-Out”

The
“Super Tour” will feature five to six selected high profile events and
co-sanctioned by the Sunoco Super Series and the Southern All Stars.
I-70 Speedway has long been heralded as one of the
most exciting tracks in the country. Besides the World Cup 300, the
lightning fast, high-banked ½ mile track has hosted top special events
through the years, including stops for ASA and the NASCAR Craftsman Truck
Series.
