First NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series At IRP
Indianapolis, IN
(August 1, 2003) –
2002 Sunoco Super Series Rookie Of The Year Andy Ponstein will be making his first attempt to race in a
NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race with veteran Michigan race ream owner
John Bailey in tonight’s Power Stroke Diesel 200 presented By Tom Rapier
RV at Indianapolis Raceway Park, which will be shown live at 8PM (Indiana
Time) on Speed Channel. Ponstein will have to try and qualify for the
event against the largest group of truck entries the series has had all
season including the return of former NASCAR Winston Cup Champion Darrell
Waltrip. Ponstein does have prior experience at IRP with three races with
the Sunoco Super Series and in an Outlaw Late Model feature there in 2002
in the Sunoco Race Festival.
Ponstein will also
have the help of veteran crew chief Tom Sokoloski for all the NASCAR
Craftsman Truck Series races he competes in 2003. Ponstein is also
tentatively scheduled to race with the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series at
Bristol Motor Speedway on August 20th, Richmond International
Speedway on September 4th, and at Martinsville Speedway on
October 18th. The team will use Ford trucks with Penske motors.
So far in 2003
Ponstein has made six starts with the Sunoco Super Series with two top
five finishes including a fourth place finish at Toledo Speedway and a
second place finish at Mansfield Motorsports Speedway. Ponstein is already
entered for the August 16th Sunoco Super Series event at
