The Hubler Group and Blake Carburetion To Sponsor Sunoco Super Series Rookie Award Program

April 17, 2003 (Salem, IN) - CRA Sunoco Super Series officials announced today that the Hubler Group and Blake Carburetion have renewed their sponsorship of the Rookie Award Program for the upcoming 2003 Sunoco Super Series season. The Hubler Group / Blake Carburetion Rookie Award Program will award the highest finishing registered rookie at all 17 series points events on the 2003 schedule with a $100 bonus and a plaque. The second highest finishing registered rookie at all 17 series points events on the 2003 schedule will receive a $50 bonus.

The Hubler Group / Blake Carburetion Rookie Of The Year Award will go to the highest finishing registered rookie in the final 2003 Hubler Group / Blake Carburetion Rookie Of The Year Award points. The points system will be different from previous years, the system for 2003 will be based on each registered rookie’s best 15 points finishes out of the 17-point races in 2003. The award will consist of a $1000 bonus and a trophy from the Hubler Group, and a complete race ready carburetor from Blake Carburetion. Also included in the award package will be a Bare Chassis from Preditor Race Cars, a late model body from Five Star Racecar Bodies, a racing uniform from Hinchman Racing Uniforms, a web site design from Motorsports Image1, a $350 Product Certificate from Midwest Speed, a $200 Product Certificate from RJS Racing Equipment, a $200 Product Certificate from Pro/Cam Racing Engine Components, a $200 Product Certificate from Dynatech, a set of restraint belts from Impact Racing, a $100 Product Certificate from Performance Friction, $100 in product from Ringers Gloves, a $100 Product Certificate from Bassett Racing Wheels, a $100 Product Certificate from Pit Stop USA .com, and a $100 Product Certificate from Hawk Performance.. In all the Hubler Group / Blake Carburetion Rookie Award Program will pay out a record $12,650 in cash and product during the 2003 season.

This will be the sixth year that the Hubler Group has been a sponsor of the Rookie Award Program with the Sunoco Super Series. The Hubler Group is a group of auto dealerships in Central Indiana owned by Indianapolis businessman Howard Hubler.

The Sunoco Super Series will have another talented group of rookies competing for the Hubler Group / Blake Carburetion Rookie Of The Year Award. Included in the group is 20-year-old Louisville, Kentucky native Chuck Barnes Jr., who got the attention of everyone last season when he was fast qualifier for the Car Brite 200 at Winchester Speedway. Barnes went on to finish second in that event, Barnes has competed part-time with the series over the last two seasons while competing full-time at Salem Speedway. Former Winston West competitor Sammy Potashnick from Sikeston, Missouri will also compete with the series as a rookie, this will be Potashnick’s first time competing full-time in a late model after competing for several seasons in a 3400 pound stock car.

Former Legends Champion Doug Greig from Indianapolis, Indiana will be driving with the series for car owner Dan Terrell in a former Matt Hagans car. 2003 C.A.R.S. Late Model Champion Robert Amos is also slated to make a run for rookie of the year honors, Amos also hails from Indianapolis, Indiana. Former Baby Grand Stock Car competitor and Alexandria, Indiana native Kent Baledge will compete as a rookie with the series in 2003 after running selected series events in 2002. Second-generation driver Terry Fisher Jr. from Ossian, Indiana has also registered for the rookie program. The 20-year-old Fisher is a former Street Stock Champion at Baer Field Speedway, and is the son of series veteran "Mr. Excitement" Terry Fisher. Lansing, Michigan driver Tom Hernly Jr. is the lone representative in the rookie class from Michigan this season. Last season saw Andy Ponstein claim the Hubler Group / Blake Carburetion Rookie Of The Year Award, beating out fellow Michigan native’s Tim Phillips and Bobby Murany. Hernley has competed in selected series races the past two years while competing elsewhere in an Outlaw late model.

The Sunoco Super Series is set to begin its 2003 season this Saturday at Anderson Speedway. Practice will begin at 4:30PM, Qualifying at 6:45PM, the race program will begin at 8PM.
