Sunoco Super
Series Releases 2003 Car Specifications and Racing Guidelines
Salem,
Ind. (November 23, 2002) - CRA Sunoco Super Series officials
announced today the release of the series 2003 Car Specifications and
Racing Guidelines. As expected there are not any major changes for
2003, but the series has made a couple of changes to increase the
level of competition and allow for some new racers to give the series
a try in 2003.
“We made some small
alterations to the carburetor rules starting with the 2003 season,”
explained Sunoco Super Series Tech Director Tim Teal. “These changes
will help the overall competition level in the series by putting all
the teams closer to the same playing field. These changes will make
teching the carburetors a little easier. The best part of the change
to the carburetor rule is it will make the cost of purchasing a
carburetor for the series significantly cheaper.”
The
series has also made changes to the rules to allow teams with a steel
headed Concept Engine to compete occasionally with a Holley 750
Carburetor. In the past the series has allowed the Concept Engine, but
those engines had to run a Holley 390 Carburetor, which made those
engines uncompetitive. Teams competing with the Concept Engine with a
Holley 750 Carburetor will not earn any series championship points in
the events they compete in during the 2003 season. The Concept Engine
rule is being used on a trial basis and may be eliminated at any time
during the season.
“We
felt by changing this rule, it would encourage a team to compete occasionally
with the Sunoco Super Series to `test the waters' without buying new
equipment,” remarked R.J. Scott, Managing Partner of the Sunoco Super Series.
“By not giving them any championship points, those teams finishes will not
effect the series teams running for points. We want the 9.0 to 1 compression,
358 cubic inch motor to remain the standard motor of the Sunoco Super Series.”
