2002 Sunoco
Super Series Champion, Joel Kauffman, to Compete in 35th
Annual Snowball Derby

LaGrange,
Ind. (November 2, 2002) - Team L.A. Motorsports along with
16-year-old Joel Kauffman will compete in the upcoming 35th Annual
Snowball Derby at Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, Fla. Kauffman
became the youngest driver to ever qualify for the prestigious
event during the 33rd running at the age of 14.
Team L.A. Motorsports, being lead by Crew Chief Bill Rievley,
competed full-time with the Sunoco Super Series during the 2002
season. Their results were nothing short of spectacular. They
were crowned the 2002 Sunoco Super Series Champions after an
intense weekend at Indianapolis Raceway Park. The team edged out
Late Model Standout and Canadian Legend Junior Hanley by just two
points for the title. This beats the previous record of three
points for the closest championship ever in the history of the
Sunoco Super Series. Kauffman established several records during
the season including most Pole Positions in Sunoco Super Series
history with five. His first win with the series at Toledo
Speedway earlier in the year made him the youngest driver to win a
race in Sunoco Super Series history and now Kauffman becomes the
youngest driver in series history to win a championship.
The 35th
Annual Snowball Derby will begin with an open practice session
scheduled for Thursday, December 5th. First
round qualifying will be Friday, December 6th
with the fastest 24 cars being guaranteed a starting spot for the
race, which is scheduled to go green at 2:00pm on Sunday, December
8th.
